Have you ever had a caddy? Did it help you? If you have ever hired a caddy when going on a golf trip you will have experienced the benefits on your game for sure. Whether it was taking a line off the tee you never thought was possible or reading a double-breaking putt where you only saw it moving one way. Here are a few of the areas where I see caddies add huge value to golfers and save them shots in the simplest way.

Better Routine
Without a doubt, your routine instantly becomes better. Chatting with your caddy in regards the club selection, identifying the good and no-go areas, and picking up on subtle things that will affect the yardage such as the change in terrain or the prevailing wind. Having a caddy allows you to ask good questions, become invested in the shot, and walk into it with pure clarity. How many times have you stood over the ball questioning the club selection or what your start line is? Generally, this results in a poorly executed shot!

Better Distance Control
Amateur golfers are short of the flag most of the time and when it comes to improving your distance control most often the trouble is short of the green. So having someone there who understands how far you hit it is a huge help in selecting the right club. This will also lead to better overall proximity and increase the probability of holing a putt and minimizing 3 putts.

Controlling The Emotions
Whether it’s off the back of a bad hole or you’re coming down the stretch with a good score in hand. It is easy to let the mind wander or completely lose our composure. Having someone to chat with and stay present is a huge one for helping control your emotions. The caddy becomes your friend, your coach, your motivator, and your psychologist. Let’s be honest we are only one bad shot away from losing control, so having someone there to keep us cool and confident is key.

Ball Finder
This isn’t just an extra pair of eyes, it’s an expert extra pair of eyes. Having someone that can find your ball is going to save you shots. Often, we turn away quickly in disgust at our bad shots, just staying with it for a few seconds longer can save you future shots.
Reserve Your Energy
A great caddy can help save your energy for your golf game and not have to worry about carrying your bag or pushing your cart around. Having another voice to remind you to eat and drink on the journey is also worth its weight in Golf as energy levels stay high and decision making remains sharp. You will really feel the benefits later in the round when coming down the final stretch.

Get The Tour Experience!
If you have never had the luxury of a caddy picking up your bag for the day then I can’t urge you enough to take the opportunity when it arises. As we have discussed, I would pretty much guarantee a caddy will save you some shots but just for the experience go and feel like a tour pro for the day. Whether it’s throwing your ball to be cleaned or leaving the bunker unraked after splashing it out. There is no better feeling than striding down the fairway without a care in the World! Think about the benefits above, and how could you become your own caddy when you don’t have the luxury of that experienced bag carrier.
