Golf news rarely stays inside the ropes anymore
And Chasing Daylight podcast episode 395 is a perfect example.
What started as a conversation about the controversial Good Good and Callaway Golf advertisement quickly turned into a much bigger discussion about golf marketing, social media outrage, LIV Golf’s uncertain future, and where the PGA Tour goes next.

The Good Good Callaway ad controversy dominated the early part of the episode. The crew agreed on one thing: regardless of how viewers interpreted the video, the advertisement missed the mark as a piece of marketing. From there, the discussion turned toward the reaction online, sponsor concerns, and the speed at which golf controversies now spread far beyond the traditional golf audience. It is another reminder that modern golf brands and content creators are operating in a much larger spotlight than they were just a few years ago.
The conversation then shifted to the PGA Tour’s proposed 2028 playoff format, including a larger field and a move toward match play. For a group that has long argued golf needs more head-to-head competition, the potential change creates plenty of excitement. Match play brings an entirely different type of pressure, and it could give the Tour Championship the drama that many fans believe the FedEx Cup Playoffs have been missing.
Then came the biggest long-term question of the night: Is LIV Golf nearing the end as we know it? With uncertainty surrounding the league and renewed speculation about players such as Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Joaquin Niemann and Cameron Smith potentially returning to the PGA Tour, the professional golf landscape could be headed for another major shift.
Episode 395 also finds time for Las Vegas golf course conditions, Harold Varner III’s sixsome controversy, Wyndham Clark and Rory McIlroy, golf content creators, and plenty of the usual Chasing Daylight detours.
And, as always, the community remains a huge part of the show, including the Garsen Golf giveaway and the countdown toward the podcast’s 400th episode.
If this week proved anything, it is that golf is never short on controversy, opinions, or stories worth talking about—and the Chasing Daylight crew had plenty to say about all of it.
Matt 0:27
Oh my God. Oh my God. Are we in holy moly? One of the craziest what a day. Right? What a day. What a day. So I’m I’m going to preface this whole episode. Because we got two main things that are going on that are crazy right now. There’s some other really good stories that are getting the backlash, but like the big story going on right now is what’s going on with good good and also what’s going on with live golf. But I I had a feeling that the good good stuff after today and what I’ve been watching on social media was going to take front and center. So as much scrolling as I did today, this was one of the posts that I think needs to have the most attention. That it’s not. And I will say this, yeah, I work for Callaway. I am a proud Callaway employee. All right. I can’t wait till you get hate letters. I don’t beat my kids. So, but this this is from Jake Morrow. He runs the account made for the range. He’s also on the fully equipped podcast. He’s very in the know with the Callaway guys, a lot of brands, but he’s very in the know with the Callaway guys. So this is what he posted on his story earlier today. The good good video was good good’s idea, not Callaway’s. Callaway is the only official equipment sponsor of the Epson tour. Callaway supports more female influencers and creators than any other OEM. The video was awful. It missed the mark on the concepts they were trying to mimic. It was not an outright declaration of support for abuse or exclusion. Alexis and the other good good girls are some of the best examples in golf of how to properly be a role model for younger women. They play golf, they have fun with their group of friends, they do it wearing proper attire, they do it while giving the guys in their group shit, and they show what it can be like for women to not just be part of the guys, but just be a golfer like the rest of the group. Period. For other creators to do anything but acknowledge the support and then give Alexa some backup is ridiculous. And it shows you the culture of what the internet has become, especially in golf. They made a mistake, the video should have never gotten public, and the reaction has been way too dramatic. Both of those things can be true. I think he said that best. Anyone, I’m sorry if you think Callaway is condoning beating women, you’re a fucking idiot. They’re not. Sell it. Joe will buy it. I’ll buy it. We’ll resell it. It’s ridiculous that people are outraged that Callaway is condoning domestic violence. It’s absurd. I was watching some stuff earlier today. People are saying they’re glad they woke up in a world where they don’t have to acknowledge Callaway as a sponsor. And I said, you know what? They give you a hundred grand paycheck. You might have a different opinion. Right? I’m glad that I am team titles all the way. I’m glad I’m affiliated with him. I’m glad that I’m supported by them. Great. You know what? Callaway doesn’t sponsor me. I work for them. But they are a phenomenal company to work for. I will say that. I know the other people that work with Callaway will say that. And never ever have I ever felt one second that they were someone who condoned domestic violence.
Joe 4:18
I’ll tell you what, I’m I’m never playing golf with you ever again.
Matt 4:22
Okay.
Joe 4:23
Never.
Matt 4:25
Well, as soon as I see you, I’m just gonna give you a little shoulder shiva, knock you over, stay off of my stuff.
Joe 4:33
I mean, it is pretty wild, like the stretches. Like you like, I don’t people just want to be outraged.
Jeremy 4:40
That any anything they can get that will cause outrage, they want that.
Matt 4:45
Coach, yeah, was quick, okay. Out of Matt.
Jeremy 4:50
What’s up, Mike?
Matt 4:52
Hey, welcome to the show. Welcome to the daylight podcast. My name’s Matt. You can find me at 1440 Golf. I’m not gonna be talking a ton about this because I think it’s insane. I I am a girl dad. I have two girls. I have one that golfed. I’ve got one that’s in in high school right now that is going to college as a marketing major. And we talked about this a lot.
Joe 5:14
Yeah, well, so she’s going as a marketing manager. She’d probably know better.
Matt 5:18
Yeah, learning. She her first in it because I she didn’t know what was going on yet. And I asked her, I said, Hey, watch this, watch this ad. Tell me what you think. And she goes, That is a horrible ad. And I said, Why? And she’s like, What are they trying to do? What is the point? I said, Well, they’re selling a new driver. I had no idea. That’s a horrible ad. I said, Okay, what did you think about the girl getting knocked down? That’s a horrible ad. She just was like, it had it had no effect. It’s like, and that’s the end of it, really. And that’s the end of it.
Joe 5:55
A horrible ad. Before we get super deep, uh, shout out Garson, as always. Use code Daylight 15 and check out tonight’s giveaway. We’re gonna have they sent me an extra one of these, sold out, one of 250 US Open Garson quad tour grips. We’re gonna give this away tonight. All you gotta do is post a comment, be here when we pull it. Um, so yeah, shout out Garson. Use code Daylight 15 at checkout. And also the Chase and Daylight Podcast grips are live on the Chasin Daylight Podcast website.
Matt 6:23
One of 249.
Joe 6:24
Well, yeah. There you go. So we’re gonna give this puppy away tonight with the stars.
Matt 6:31
As Joe said, if you’re watching in the wide format below, you can click on this right now and it’ll take you to our store and you can purchase it.
Joe 6:39
Only 50 main.
Matt 6:40
Yeah.
Joe 6:42
Um, but I it we’re going off of what you just said, I think I I I mean, I don’t really have an issue with the tackling too much. You know, they’re friends, but the way he said it after, like, don’t touch my driver. Yeah, it was like it wasn’t comedic. It was not comedic, it wasn’t meant to be. It seemed it seemed serious, yeah. That’s what I’m saying. And it was a it was a play on a movie, which we understand.
Matt 7:11
Well, not a lot of people do, yeah.
Joe 7:13
No, hardly
Sponsor Fallout and the Good Good Big Break
Joe 7:14
anybody. Oh, of course.
Matt 7:15
Hardly anybody does that. Let’s see, Jeff’s on here. What up, fellas, Matt? As a fellow employee of Cali, I you’re darn well know they’re taking care of this from the inside. Yeah, yeah. Sponsors are pulling out of good good uh of their their big break show. Apparently, Golf Galaxy has uh was the sponsor that said we don’t want nothing to do with it anymore.
Joe 7:41
Um well they pulled, so they stopped the premiere of Big Break uh tonight because a sponsor wanted to pull out and probably blur their images, which will premiere next week, which Big Break, you know, if you’re a fan, you know, you know. Uh also uh the commissioner and PGA was talking about it’s a fluid situation if they’re gonna do that good good um whatever at the tour championship, that little precursor or whatever they’re doing. But also anybody that wears good good and like wants to wear good good is you know, I mean, I mean it’s also on you, you know. I mean, I’m not a big good good fan myself, but make good content.
Matt 8:24
Mike from BGC chatting and uh general consensus reaction overblown. Marketing folks should have canceled this before it aired because the cancel climate of 2026.
Joe 8:33
Absolutely, yeah.
Matt 8:35
And we were talking a little bit before about this before we hopped on live. You know, it I said, you know, if there’s a Netflix movie where a lady is getting her ass handed to her, it’s entertainment. Nobody’s canceling Netflix, nobody’s canceling the producer, nobody’s canceling the film studios who made it because it’s entertainment. You know, this was an advertisement, so it’s a little bit different, but it’s still meant to be an entertainment value. It failed, it failed. Even if you take that part out, it was a horrible ad. Um Callaway’s way better than that.
Joe 9:15
Also, I mean, even from the get-go, it’s a horrible idea. Like, it why wouldn’t you just get the quantum? Why do you need the good, good quantum? First of all, uh, but yeah, like to your point, like, I mean, you know, I don’t watch euphoria on HBO. I don’t have HBO, but like the Sydney Sweeney shit I saw, like, you know, there’s way worse out there, and uh, they’re friends as well. So I don’t know. But Cliff right here, he says, uh, is it horrible? We are all talking about it. Random people at the conference I’m at don’t even like golf and are talking about it, which is interesting.
Matt 9:55
Very interesting. I asked, I asked Brooklyn because uh, like I said, she’s my marketing uh future marketing star, and she hadn’t heard about it yet. Uh, my daughter in New York had heard about it. I asked Erica, she hadn’t heard anything about it, and so you know, I got their insights on it. Um it’s it’s crazy. But uh, Mike BGC, another comment here. If you put it will you stop? What is he doing?
Joe 10:27
Is he I’m just trying to show that people love, you know, people are popping in.
Matt 10:33
If you put a dude in the same position as a chick, still a terrible ad. Absolutely, it’s still a terrible ad. Yeah, that’s true. But I the first time I saw it, I was like, that that’s I did. We need a good, good driver, Callaway. I mean, they have putter not really okay. I didn’t think nothing of it, you know. And maybe that’s just me, maybe that’s my views. I didn’t see it, and I’m not downplaying women’s reactions to it. You are entitled to your reaction.
Joe 11:04
Absolutely.
Matt 11:05
What absolutely if you found it offensive, by all means, that is your prerogative. But to blame Callaway and to say they are condoning domestic violence is ridiculous.
Joe 11:17
So Jalen said best ads make people talk, whether it is horrible or not.
Matt 11:22
Oh, this is definitely making people talk. I don’t think I don’t think it’s uh making people talk the way they intended it to make people talk. Yeah, Tacomo has one. Did you see that? Or it’s like a hand wrapped around it, touch touch our driver.
Joe 11:43
Wow, yeah.
Matt 11:44
Oh, they’re they’re popping up all over the place.
Joe 11:47
Well, I mean, it’s that’s the that’s the culture we live in, too. Everybody wants a reaction, it’s reaction culture and like react to it, you know. They’re trying to it’s shock value, shock value is huge, and yeah, you can do it right or you can do it wrong. I mean, but that’s what it’s about.
Matt 12:05
Yeah, I had people sending me text messages all day long with things. It’s it’s crazy. Um, this lady on I think this was on threads. Yeah, I’m not on threads, so couldn’t see it, but they sent me a screenshot. I canceled my round tomorrow because I will not be seen in public with a Callaway bag, all bar marker, or head covers. I will replace these items from brands that do not condone the abuse of women. You committed suicide, calloway golf, you’re done. And then somebody said, I’m sending these to Chip Brewer, President Cow 18 letters DV domestic violence is never funny, and it’s a bunch of Callaway balls that all say fuck you on it.
Joe 12:43
Yeah, and I mean, come on, come on. I mean, it’s yeah, I mean it’s a stretch, right? It’s like yeah, I don’t know. Like, I don’t think any company in its own right would openly condone that. So I don’t I it was not done on purpose. No, so I mean, I don’t know. It’s just there’s people just stretch, you know, and and people love to find their thoughts in things, you know what I mean? Like, you know, Matt Matt hates Matt hates Cabot Cliffs, but a lot of people love it, you know, and he’ll go to his grave till and you don’t go to Cabot Cliffs.
Matt 13:33
I don’t I don’t hate it. I didn’t love it.
Joe 13:34
He hates it so much, it’s crazy. But you know, I’ve never been, so he’s been, you know, but that’s his opinion, and that’s his thoughts.
Matt 13:44
Yeah,
Episode 400 Golf Bag Giveaway
Matt 13:45
yeah. How are we doing the bag ivy? The bag givy, if you’re not aware, we are giving away a Callaway bag. Da da. Um on the show, the 400th episode. This is what are we at? 395. So we got uh five weeks. Five weeks we’ll be giving it away. Uh, we have it’s on Instagram. There’s a little contest going on right now. All you have to do is share a photo. You can do it in a post, you can do it in a reel, you can do it in a story, and tag us in it, showing us the state of your bag and letting everybody know that you are worthy of receiving a new one. We want this bag to go somebody that needs it and wants it, not somebody that wants to want to.
Joe 14:29
It’s gonna be a calorie bag.
Dan 14:31
All the all the entries are gonna be withdrawn. Yeah, yeah.
Matt 14:42
They should go all in, get Ray J, Bobby Brown to do the music, kid rock to be the spokesman.
Joe 14:48
Also, a shout out beds, shout outs beds in the house.
Matt 14:51
Yeah, beds in the house. Yep, shout out ads. Hey, a I don’t know how much I can say, so I’m just not gonna say it. There were some other emails that came out today, too. Um gosh, man. I it’s this era that we’re living in, it’s it’s wild, and it scares me sometimes because I’m I’m like sitting here thinking after seeing the reaction and people going nuts, and I’m thinking, going, is there is there something wrong with me? Like, why am I not upset? Should I be upset? Should this have upset me? I I’ve you know, my wife, my daughters, uh, you know, I I have a girl house dominated by women in my life, and like I’m I’m I don’t get because you have common sense, I’m not riled up about a video. Oh god.
Jeremy 15:45
You think that the driver’s actually gonna hit the market, though?
Joe 15:47
That’s my that’s you chiming in with the winner. Oh, yeah. Are they gonna pull they’re probably gonna pull it now? And how many have they made? They’re probably gonna pull it.
Matt 15:57
Well, I’m sure uh, like with golf if golf galaxy is pulling out of the the big break as a sponsor, yeah.
Joe 16:05
I’m I don’t think it’s calloway pulling out of it, is it? You think hey Trey Trey Golf, the Las Vegas golf realtor in the house in your house in Las Vegas. Make sure you make sure you make sure you hit up Trace Anders, the Trace Anderson selling they’re still selling on the good good website. Are they? Oh, Mikey B in the house. Shout out Mikey B.
Matt 16:28
Yeah, yeah. I’m not upset about it, but by no means does that mean I condone violence against women, right?
Joe 16:34
Exactly. That’s the whole thing. That’s the whole thing right there. That Trace summed it up beautifully, right there.
Matt 16:39
I don’t think and and I mean there is a lot, there’s a lot of assholes on social media, right? Really, it’s really easy to hide behind your name. I found that out with my video with the lab stuff. There’s a lot of assholes on social media. Oh, absolutely, man. And if and if you’re a good looking female in the golf space and you say something, there’s a really good chance it’s gonna piss off 90% of the guys out there that are not used to having women in the golf space, and those people are wacko, and the fact that they feel like they have to go on and comment just makes it look even worse. Just stop, you know.
Joe 17:21
Also, one thing is like good good started good good girls, like they have their own years ago.
Matt 17:28
Yeah, it’s I mean, I don’t know the things that they have done, uh and I mean Callaway too, Callaway has supported these influencers more than I mean, how much Callaway gear do you see out there on the YouTube videos, you know, from influencers? I they they’re supportive like crazy to these people. And I really think if they say, Hey, you know, here’s your new box of gear, but in the bottom there’s a little note.
Joe 17:57
The good yeah, Trey, the good good girls were in the commercial. Yeah, I think it was good good girl that got tackled. Alexis, yeah.
Matt 18:05
That’s well, the guy that hit her, apparently, isn’t that hit her boyfriend?
Joe 18:09
Yeah, I mean no, it’s her no, it was no. I saw a video, it was Garrett’s Garrett who tackled her, it’s his girlfriend’s best friend. So I I think a lot of the stuff too is like even like with comedy, right? Like Kill Tony, like people get offended by Kill Tony. Oh my you know, like stuff people say, you know, on stage, like, but comedy is is you know, I just it’s kind of wild, you know. And you had Richard Pryor, you know, back in the day, and like you know, it was just a different time differently.
Matt 18:45
Some of the old stuff, like the Jefferson, Archie Bunker, Samford’s son. I mean, there was some stuff that like would not fly, and hey, would not fly nowadays. I get it, but I my whole beef with everybody reacting to this so strongly is that they they believe in their hearts that Callaway is like, hey, you know what? Let’s go make a video where we beat up a chick. Yeah, that’s gonna fucking sell drive.
Joe 19:16
That’s yeah, yeah. If you check message, secret messaging, yeah.
Jeremy 19:21
Check some of the major media outlets, and that’s the way that the story is told. It’s about someone pushing a woman to the ground, and it’s it’s not there’s no context, and there’s just that 30 seconds more after that.
Matt 19:35
That is just really, really bad, you know. But that’s not even getting play.
Joe 19:41
Uh that is true, yes. That is true, Mike.
Matt 19:44
GGC. For the record, though, an advertisement pushing a product using a content is different than a comedy skit. Yeah, of course. I said that earlier. It is it is different, it is different. It was a hey, bad choice. Bad choice.
Joe 19:59
They should have released it during Christmas, and then it was like wrapped up, and then it’s like brothers fighting over the driver.
Matt 20:04
Well, don’t you remember you remember that ad when Tigering Manager? Come on, let me get it. Remember that ad with Tiger on the ring guy. The guy comes up and grabs his bag, yeah, where he tackles the dude that’s running. You know, like a play on that would have been hilarious, you know. But yeah, but I don’t know.
Joe 20:25
It was just yeah, I don’t know. I mean, yeah, but you know, it’s it’s interesting that this aspect of uh today’s culture hit golf. I don’t think there’s been another who is that in Joe’s screen.
Matt 20:40
I don’t recognize
Has Outrage Culture Reached Golf?
Matt 20:41
that guy, yeah.
Joe 20:42
Um wiping my glasses. Okay, but like have we we haven’t had an incident like this in golf or like cancel culture in golf, have we?
Jeremy 20:49
Uh JT got canceled a little bit.
Matt 20:51
Yeah, JT got canceled.
Joe 20:52
Oh, yeah, yeah. That’s true. Yeah, that’s true.
Matt 20:55
And then and the tiger slipping him a tampon was you know, got borderline.
Joe 21:00
Yeah, that’s borderline. Yeah, yeah. I guess yeah, that would I mean yeah.
Matt 21:05
No, Jesse, it’s it’s just the new quantum triple diamond. It’s just a different paint scheme. That’s it.
Joe 21:11
It’s just wrapped with good, good art.
Matt 21:14
Yeah, it’s got a good good grip, it’s got a good good shaft, it’s got good good stickers on it.
Joe 21:20
So yeah, interesting, nothing new, but all the golf is so big now that it’s like you know, this is a thing now because golf is fucking huge.
Matt 21:31
Yeah, he got kicked from Ralph Lauren, that’s right.
Joe 21:33
Yeah, and then he went to Grayson.
Matt 21:36
Yep.
Joe 21:37
Yeah. Good choice, in my opinion.
Matt 21:40
Since Tiger got hit with a nine iron.
Joe 21:45
I mean I mean, Ralph Loren had his had his stuff back in the nineties too. No, that was Tommy, he’ll figure right.
Matt 21:52
Well, you know what’s what’s crazy is not next week, but the week after.
Joe 21:58
Oh yeah, Jesse.
Matt 22:00
That be yeah, SNLC.
Joe 22:02
Are they gonna do one? You think? Oh, it doesn’t have to be a good one. Somebody should put that on polymarket.
Matt 22:08
Um, throw that out. Let’s see. Hang on, where is this ad? Uh, you can find it on TikTok. Just search Callaway good good ad and you’ll find it. Um, what was I saying?
Joe 22:24
Totally drew blank.
unknown 22:25
Find that.
Joe 22:25

Joe 23:21
Oh, is that is that Randy? Is that Mr. Powers? Holy moly. The troll of trolls, bink wonner. Okay. Keep Mr. Powers in the house. What up, Randy?
Matt 23:38
The real question is how bad is Chasing Daylight getting beat in a scramble at Ross Bridge? You know, our scramble record kind of is pretty stellar.
Joe 23:49
I mean, I have a trophies. I can show you some trophies.
Matt 23:53
Oh, there’s there’s one right over there. You can see it next to the Callaway bag.
Joe 23:57
Big company, man. Big company, man.

Joe 24:20
So no, that’s just because you want to go back and do this and that and this and that. Got it.
Matt 24:26
Got it.
Joe 24:27
Shout out, Tracy.
Matt 24:30
Apparently, it’s not worth anything anymore.
Joe 24:33
This is one of our trophies. Here I’ll show you. It doesn’t mean shit.
Matt 24:37
Oh, is that the football?
Joe 24:39
Yep, there it is right here. Everybody’s everybody’s getting fucking bags and head covers, and look at the get the get the big five sticker still on there. Yeah, the big five sticker. Here you go. Shout out Derek Carr. Beat Derek Carr at his own tournament. Had to listen to a few sermons. Just a few. But but the winner, the winners of the charity scramble got $40 footballs from Big Five signed by Derek Carr.
Matt 25:13
And that and that black head cover up there. That’s a dormy head cover.
Joe 25:17
Yeah, and everybody else was getting cool shit. Like there was bag, like there was like stitch bags and fucking dormie head covers and got this Yeti coolers and shit.
Dan 25:27
I should have sold it for $100 when I had it.
Joe 25:29
Somebody offered me a hundred bucks for it when Derek Carr was on the Raiders, but hey, it is a memory. It is a memento when we beat Derek Carr.
unknown 25:37
Yeah.
Matt 25:40
Uh let’s see. What’s this say, Jesse? Are the same people that say this ad was promoting violence against women’s the one supporting Lindsay Clancy?
Joe 25:49
It was Lindsay Clancy. It was Lindsay Clancy. Tom Clancy’s daughter? What’s she doing?
Matt 25:56
Jeremy, you want to get on Lindsay Clancy?
Jeremy 25:58
Rainbow. I’ve seen that in the news somewhere.
Matt 26:01
Is that something we can Google or should we not?
Jeremy 26:04
I think it’s Googlable.
Matt 26:06
Okay. I don’t know, Jesse. I’m sorry. I’m not that up on if it’s not golf related.
Jeremy 26:12
I think it’s uh Mikey. We beat him. Mothers who’s hyper. Yeah, it’s just it’s uh big in the news right now.
Matt 26:22
Okay.
Jeremy 26:24
Interesting. Killed her three kids.
Matt 26:27
I’m trying to imagine seeing Joe at full down. She killed her kids.
Jeremy 26:31
Killed her kids. Well, supposedly, allegedly, she killed her three kids.
Dan 26:35
Oh.
Jeremy 26:37
Whoa.
Dan 26:38
Good lord. Holy smokes. Was she a Callaway employee? Oh too soon. Oh sorry. Good good. Good and good employee. Good, good employee.
Joe 26:48
Hang on. Oh shit.
Matt 26:50
There we go. All right.
Joe 26:52
Sorry, guys.
Matt 26:53
How’s everybody doing?
Joe 26:55
Hey, speaking of trials, the Tupac murder trials going. Tupac murder trial, yep.
Matt 27:00
Yeah, that’s that’s crazy how long ago that happened. Good grief. My friend used to live in the book. Keep the and the boys right across the street from that place.
Dan 27:10
You guys are like two weeks away from dying anyway. They’re like 70, 80 years old and shit. Right. I was like, man, this guy sneezes too hard. He’s gonna die.
Matt 27:20
What did she say, Yan? Back to golf. All right. So uh before we get into live Tabecca’s not dead now.
Joe 27:30
He’s in Valhalla. I believe that. I believe yeah, he is in Valhalla, he’s been there for a minute. No, he’s in Jamaica. I’ve seen pictures of him in Jamaica dancing.
Matt 27:40
The PGA
PGA Tour’s 2028 Playoff Overhaul
Matt 27:41
tour came out and uh let everybody know that the 2028 playoffs take down that bag. Jesus live is ending, VGN ending, coincidence. I think not. No, that’s funny.
Joe 27:54
Oh yeah.
Matt 27:57
The the tour came out and said they’re gonna change things up for 2028 at the the tour championship. So it is going to be a there’s gonna be 90 players in it to start, 72 whole uh tournament, the top 32 will advance to a group match play.
Joe 28:18
I can’t wait for that.
Match Play Is Coming to the Tour Championship
Matt 28:20
Then the then the next week the 32 will play the top two from each pod advance, and you’ll have 16 guys playing match play.
Jeremy 28:30
So basically, they listen to us.
Matt 28:32
I like it. I love it. Some people are some people are a little upset saying that the tour championship is coming down to two guys, but it’s not, there’s 90 guys involved.
Joe 28:42
Who gives a fuck, dude?
Matt 28:44
Yeah, there’s 90 guys, it’s gonna be amazing.
Joe 28:49
It’s gonna be fantastic.
Matt 28:51
It if this when when the champion is crowned at the end of this, I don’t think anybody’s gonna say, Oh, well, you know, Scotty had a better year, uh, so he should have won.
Joe 29:07
Well, that’s golf, too. Like, you if you if you if you had a better year, you should have a better fall. I mean, like, if you’re the best player, because golf is uh fickle, very fickle. Yep, you know what I mean? Like, golf is fickle.
Matt 29:21
So I mean that I the the old peak at the right time, you gotta peek at the right time, you know. It was match play, and they they played for six days, you know, yeah, and uh they’ve got gotten a little soft on these guys, they’re freaking out, you know.
Joe 29:35
The whole thing also is like you, you know, like around the majors, too. It’s like players will go play you know a month before, and then they’ll take two weeks off, and then they’ll play the week before, or whatever their routine is, you know, like because they’re trying to peak at the right time. And if you want to win the tour championship, you gotta peak at the right fucking time. I mean, like, and match play is is cinema, it’s better cinema than you know, somebody run stroke play.
Matt 30:04
Well, I I don’t I don’t like that everybody’s even going into this the 30 players because there’s about 22 players in in that field that probably don’t deserve a player of the year, you know, FedEx Cup tournament champion, you know, based on their play throughout this year.
Joe 30:29
Uh, I still think points need to be hey we got we got a first time listener. Thanks. Let’s go. Peter Peter Mel output Peter Melt. Please probably he probably has a YouTube channel, so go follow him.
Matt 30:43
Yeah, leave us a comment. Let me know how you found the show. I really appreciate that. Thanks for tuning in.
Joe 30:48
Found it. Did you find it through Amigos on the Green?
Matt 30:50
And what Bush said. Make sure you hit that like and subscribe.
Joe 30:53
Absolutely. Shout out to Ed Bush.
Matt 30:57
Uh, yeah, so I don’t I don’t think you know you play for points throughout the whole year. I think your points, if it’s a points-based system, and you know, you’re awarding points for events. Golf hasn’t been just that’s crazy. Um, I think that if you play in a final event, it should have points towards your points, you know. Um, Scotty has played great, he won some great tournaments. Windham Clark has played great, won some great tournaments. Yeah, there’s guys that have played consistent throughout the entire year that have earned those top 10 spots, and now somebody that’s in the 30th spot that if they won three events in a row in the regular season wouldn’t catch them points-wise, can win the title. Uh seems a little yeah.
Joe 31:46
I mean, I don’t know.
Matt 31:47
Dan, what do you think?
Dan 31:49
Yeah, let’s hear from the play. I mean, I’ve always been I’ve always been an advocate for match play for either even the for majors. Like, I would love to see match play come back to um, you know, PGA championship or even you know the US Open, which I believe it was kind of back in the day. Maybe I’m wrong on that. But um I mean, as far as as people complaining about, you know, well, this guy had a better season or whatever, you know, people who don’t like the format, that’s just kind of how playoff sports goes. I mean, the number one best team doesn’t always win the World Series, doesn’t always win the Super Bowl. That’s why you get into the playoffs because anybody can win. All you got to do is catch a lucky streak for four days, you know, or in match play, it’s it’s it’s more than that because you can it’s more on a man-to-man basis instead of you playing the field, you know. So I think it’s exciting. I think it’s uh it’s it’s a good way to get match play back on a PGA tour because I mean when they had the when they had the what was it, WGC events, when they had the accenture match plays and shit like that with Field of 64, that was great golf. Yeah, that was really good golf, you know, and that was just for a million dollars back then, and everybody was all up in arms about it, you know, and now that it’s freaking you know generational millions, it’s you know, it’s gonna be really, really good. And I’m I’m looking forward to it for sure.
Matt 33:13
Yep, Jeremy.
Jeremy 33:16
I agree 100% exactly what Dan said.
Matt 33:19
Oh, you would.
Jeremy 33:21
I just I I feel the same way. I mean, we’ve we’ve been talking about for years, we’ve been talking about we need to change the match play. It’s just it to me, it’s a little bit of a snooze fest. Like the the end, it feels like it used to be more exciting. I don’t know if it’s just me tuning out, but I just don’t care as much as I used to, but I think having match play, it’s gonna be super exciting. I can’t wait to see that.
Matt 33:46
Yeah, I can’t wait for it. I mean, we it sucks we have to wait two years, but yeah, it’s 2028, right?
Joe 33:53
Yeah, I mean, it’s one of those things, it’s like why did why does everybody love the Ryder Cup, you know? Or the Dell match play was always fun too, yeah. Yeah, which is gone, too. Yeah, yeah, I’m really interesting, and I loved what he said about you know visiting locations and golf courses that you know or that the tour has never visited before. And if they fucking go play a hoopie, I was just gonna say that for the holy moly, it’ll make it and and and that’s one of the great things about match play is par is irrelevant, so they could really play anywhere. Yeah, yeah, that’s that’s what makes that great yard.
Matt 34:36
You could pay 7800 yards, it doesn’t matter.
Dan 34:39
I mean, look at the US AM. I mean, that was that was held at Marion, and that was awesome golf. I watched every bit of that. I watched more USAM than I did most PGA tour events this year, yeah. And it was it’s it’s exciting. I I I love match play.
Matt 34:55
Can’t wait for the next Graserman Patrick Canley match play finals. Oh my goodness. Hey, you know what? It’s you know, Tiger never really did good in the match play events, you know, and uh you’ll you gotta see. We’ll see.
Joe 35:13
Get Brian Harmon and fucking Patrick Cantley first out. I would love to see it, and then just fucking you know, whistling. You guys two-stroke penalty, two-stroke penalty, slow ass motherfuckers.
Matt 35:28
Hey Peter, thank you so much. I’m glad you saw that. Yeah, just send me a DM and and we can uh get a conversation going with uh with that. We’ve got already got a couple people that have reached out. Um, I’m playing in a scramble event at Aliante on Friday with somebody that’s probably gonna start writing some posts. So yeah, it’s uh that’s gonna be fun. I’m looking forward to it.
Joe 35:51
I write, I write a lot of stuff too. Yeah, I’m kidding. I used to write, I used to write. I used to write graffiti and uh music, but not no more.
Matt 36:06
Good good on the PGA tour. Bad bad on good good.
unknown 36:13
Yeah, all right.
Matt 36:14
Let’s talk about mini sun. Uh I mean Chris, yeah, uh Chris, yeah, you missed it.
Joe 36:22
Yeah, you missed it.
Jeremy 36:23
In short, we’re returning all of our Callaway gear.
Joe 36:27
No, yeah, yeah. We’re Callaway’s cancelled, guys.
Matt 36:31
Yeah,
New Odyssey Putter & Las Vegas National
Matt 36:32
I I just I just put a new putter in the bag.
Jeremy 36:35
Is it again? Is it an Odyssey? Odyssey. A good, good Odyssey?
Matt 36:40
No, no. A bad, bad Odyssey. Alright, which one is it? No, um it’s the the AI dual blade. AI dual blade. Yeah, blade, very, very threatening of you. I rolled it very well at the awful, and I mean awful conditioned Las Vegas National, which that that hurts me to say. It hurts me to say.
Joe 37:16
That’s I mean, that’s Chris Torres’ stomping rounds. I mean, I just love that.
Matt 37:22
And I don’t know what happened. I someone texted me on on IG saying that they heard there was a fallout between management and the greenskeeper, and the green keeper sabotaged it.
Joe 37:34
Don’t know if that’s true, but it is the Greenskeeper sabotaged it, yeah, because he was getting let go.
unknown 37:43
Wow.
Jeremy 37:44
Real Greenskeeper’s revenge, yeah.
Matt 37:46
Really in a weekend with rakes in the way. This is awful, awful conditions. Uh yeah. Uh so Jesse, I know Jesse’s in the chat. He played in the event. Uh Kyle won his flight. Congrats. Uh, went to a two-hole playoff. Um, but yeah, I I chipped on the green twice just to avoid the bunkers on the green. Because it was I’m like, I said, I had like a 30-foot putt. And I’m like, the first 10 feet of this is through patchy nastiness. Uh, I said, there’s there’s no way I know where this it’s like Plachinko. You know, you have no idea if you know where this ball is gonna go. So I I it was so funny. I was walking to it and I told Steven, because I I missed the green left, and I chipped up on and hit a bad chip and had that putt. And I told Stephen, I said, Man, I may chip this. And uh, so he goes and hits his putt. He looks back and he sees me with the wedge in my hand, and he’s like, Oh shit, I thought you were I thought you were kidding, and you know, so I almost made it too, so it was nice, but uh yeah. I I mean I I wanted to come back.
Joe 38:59
It’s it’s gonna come back.
Matt 39:01
It’ll be such a good the bunkers were surprisingly it’s always been a little finicky, too.
Joe 39:06
It’s like it goes through stages, you know. It’s true.
Matt 39:10
But there was uh so many patchy areas in the fairway, so many patchy areas in the approach, and the I mean the green side, they like it’s like the the mower that does the the mounding broke.
Joe 39:23
I heard it’s the the worst conditioned golf course in the country right now. Is that true or no?
Matt 39:29
In the country, I wouldn’t say the country.
Joe 39:32
Isn’t that what uh isn’t that what T Thiel told you? There’s the one in LA.
Dan 39:38
He was joking though. I think he said in the last podcast though, um, he told me that it was the uh it was the worst one in the state, probably the worst course in the state.
Matt 39:48
Yeah, it’s it it was sad. I mean, it broke my heart on a couple spots because you know, you I love that place.
Vegas Golf Course Conditions & Overseeding
Dan 39:56
I love International. You know what though? It just might be that time, you know, because it’s hot as fuck. A lot of courses are you know, doing the overseed stuff, they might be letting it go. You know, when Jeremy and I we we played we played Coyote Springs and uh Coyote Springs was in not great shape either. I mean the greens were good, except for the first hole, but uh yeah, the fairways were wet and patchy, everything around the greens was just scorched, like they like vertic. It looked like they verti cut and just like just dredged everything around the greens. Yeah, it was it was different. I’ve never seen coyote like that, but uh still still very playable.
Jeremy 40:35
Um greens been 115 degrees for a month, yeah.
Matt 40:39
So it’s like it’s been warm and we had that that weird monsoon last week.
Dan 40:43
Yeah, and yeah, it’s it’s wet out there, it was saturated.
Matt 40:47
Yeah, so hopefully, and you know, courses come and courses go with conditions. Some some weeks it’s great. I mean, we’ve we’ve played places that we were like, holy crap, this is amazing! And then a month later, it’s like I can’t believe this used to be good, and it it it happens around here more frequently than probably people realize.
Jeremy 41:06
Yeah, Beds, are you talking about national?
Matt 41:12
Oh wow, yeah. Is that is that coyote or national? He says I talked to the team there yesterday and they said it’s just not worth it to maintain before scalping and overseed.
Joe 41:22
Yeah, it’s coyote doesn’t overspring, so that’s gotta be national. Yeah, yeah, overseeds coming.
Dan 41:30
Yeah, Troy, that was uh that was Sunday Trey.
Matt 41:34
Gascot hoarding all the water. Not really.
Joe 41:41
Paiute’s hoarding all the water.
Matt 41:43
Uh no, then Paiute does a good job. They’re they’re if if anybody should hold conferences on how to maintain proper golf course conditions with the water supply you have, they need to reach out to Paiute because what they do out there is incredible. I I had a some guy posted on on Grassy saying that uh he played Paiute for the first time, and he goes, It was okay, you know, it was nice. Get out of here. And I was like, I go, whoa, I’ve never heard anybody say it was okay, it was nice. I said, you know, this are you’re you’re uh I bet he doesn’t like that Callaway.
Joe 42:20
Good, good at either.
Matt 42:22
I said what you have to understand is the conditions you played in today will be that way every time you play, and that’s you know, 35 degree temperatures in the winter, 115 degrees in summer. It’s always in amazing, it’s always the same, and that’s what’s amazing about that place.
Joe 42:44
Yeah, always know what you’re gonna get there.
Matt 42:46
That is not true, Chris Torres. Quit spouting lies just because they’re on the reservation doesn’t mean they have zero Chris is Chris is on the on the council.
Joe 42:56
I heard he’s on the tribe, he’s on the he’s he’s a tribe council member, Chris Torres. Is a parking spot, yeah.
Matt 43:08
Yeah, country club, coyote, pie, they all have natural water reservoirs. Yep, prim was the same. Oh man, let’s go tap into that ah man, yeah. Why you gotta bring that up, man?
Joe 43:18
Miss Prim.
Matt 43:20
It was always there for us, always, always I know you say Lugal it, I’m I’m pretty sure you meant Google it. Um I’ll tell you off off air, so you know.
Joe 43:33
Yeah, we yeah, yeah.
Matt 43:36
I’ve probably paid Paiute five times, completely random times over year, August, March, that are always elite conditions. Always, always exactly, always and that’s what you know. Somebody coming in from in out in from out of town catches it on a you know a day, and they’re like, Oh, yeah, these are great conditions, you know, and they don’t think nothing of it. But it’s like that all the time.
Joe 43:55
All the time.
Matt 43:58
August conditions are rough for golf. Hey Trey, how was Mountain Falls? Julian went off. I saw that. He went over the hump to Peramp on Saturday. Played some golf out there.
Joe 44:09
I need to go back to that little Mexican spot on the hump on the top of the hump. I’ve been dreaming about that middle Mexican spot. Mountain Springs Saloon. That’s true. Rip Dolly Parton. Yeah, absolutely.
Matt 44:22
Oh, they’re super soft out there, huh? Hey, they’re watering. They’re swatering like crazy trying to say that. All right, P Dolly.
Joe 44:30
Yep. Rip the OG knocker lady. Big knockers. The OG.
Matt 44:38
Jesse said, unfortunately, I didn’t notice the fairway conditions at National. The rough greens were horrible, though. Yeah. It was not pretty. Some of those rough lies, you have you had no idea what you were gonna get.
Joe 44:49
This fucking guy. This is just just yeah, this guy right here. I saw that. Yeah, not too bad.
Matt 44:57
Okay. Oh, hot tub time. I’m sorry. My bad. I’m all riled up because this is going on. So my apologies.
Joe 45:08
He doesn’t, he didn’t know what you meant, Chris. That’s fine.
Matt 45:11
I’m sorry.
Joe 45:13
I just bat fingered it. Hey, while you’re here, leave a comment, guys. We’re gonna give away this one of 250 Garson Quad Tour grip from the US Open. Okay, all you gotta do is leave a comment and be here when we pull the giveaway. Hey, we got 30 entries in there tonight.
Matt 45:28
Yes, that may be a new record.
Joe 45:31
Make sure you’re using code Daylight15 at checkout at Garsengolf.com. But this is this is coming your way.
Matt 45:37
Hey got pain. I just got notification that your grip just got delivered.
Joe 45:41
So yeah, he was actually he was actually telling me last night. He’s like, tell Matt I haven’t received my grip.
Matt 45:47
Yeah, yeah, it’s it got delivered just now. I just got a message as the show started. Shout out, Garson.
Joe 45:53
Oh I told you I got it. This is that’s Randy. When you’re doing that’s Austin Powers, that’s Austin Powers. Okay, that’s Randy Randy. Okay, you don’t know, but I know I’m I’m shout out Randy Randy. I go big troll, big troll. I know I haven’t been on much lately.
Matt 46:13
Uh it wasn’t really a bash session. We were talking about the people bashing it. Yeah, baby. Yeah.
Joe 46:24
Uh there he is. Oh, there he is. Yeah, Mr. Powers. There he is.
Matt 46:32
Joe, the most recent post was inspired by one of your quotes. Oh, I get do I gotta look it up? Let me see.
Joe 46:39
The most recent beautiful golf course, guys. Also, if you’re not following, if you’re on Instagram and you’re not following beautiful golf courses on Instagram, now I can’t. I’m sure you probably are, but if you’re not, you need to go do that right now. Beautiful golf courses on Instagram. Was it I saw that true blue stuff? You guys were falling. I saw you collabing with uh salty golfer on the true blue, the little Mike Strantz joints. Good job, Mike. Well done. Well done.
Matt 47:07
Oh, golf is such a bizarre game. People dedicate the first 18 years of life playing other sports, then one day they decide to go golfing and it becomes a personality for the rest of their lives. Amen. He’s gotta follow you first, Mike.
Jeremy 47:25
Any LeBron James collabs coming up, Mike?
Matt 47:29
Oh, yeah. You’re LeBron James followed me, guy.
Joe 47:32
So yeah, that’s crazy. I mean, did you see that the video of uh LeBron out of Bandon and he’s got like fucking you know seven people around him? And do you see that? Good for him. He’s discovering the game and he’s falling in love with it, which is awesome.
Matt 47:51
Hey, it’s not about finding the game, it’s about or it’s not about playing the game, it’s about finding the game. He has found it.
Joe 48:01
Good for him. Good for him.
Matt 48:02
Good for him. Go enjoy the hell out of it.
Joe 48:06
He should probably come on the Chase of the AI podcast, guys. Go spam him uh and tell him to come on the Chase of the Day podcast.
Matt 48:12
It’s early in his golfing career.
Joe 48:13
He, you know, yeah, yeah.
Matt 48:15
I’m sure he’s got all the heavy hitters have already hit him up for all that. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Joe 48:20
Absolutely. Do we even talk? Do we talk live? Uh, not uh not an LBJ.
Matt 48:28
Uh oh. Everybody just pro there we go. We all back.
Joe 48:33
Yep, yeah. Never left. Never not an LBJ. I’m not a big LeBron fan, but I was very I was very stoked for him when he won the championship in Cleveland. Uh, do I think he’s the goat? No way. Jordan is, of course, all day, but you know.
Matt 48:54
All
Harold Varner III and the Sixsome Controversy
Matt 48:55
day. So much golf news, probably not even time to talk about HV3 and his sixum. That was a fun story. Did you guys hear that?
Joe 49:03
I didn’t even no, I didn’t see that. I didn’t see that.
Matt 49:05
Yeah. So uh apparently Harold Varner and five of his buddies showed up uh and they wanted to play as a six ball. And they said, No, you can’t. You can play as three and three. And he said, Okay, so they go to the starter. Hey, we want to play as a six. And starter said, absolutely not. We got players behind you, absolutely not. You can play as three and three. Like, okay, we really want to play as a six. He said, Well, if the clubhouse clears it, that’s on them. Goes out as a clubhouse, absolutely not. Way too much play behind you, three and three. So, okay, so they go off as three and three, and they get out to the fourth hole, which is a par three, and they go, they all get together and play. Yeah, and so then they approached him on the fifth hole and said, Go. You’re not welcome here anymore. And so Harold Varner’s legal team put out a disclosure saying that’s not what happened. They were waiting for them to tee off, then they teed off, they waited for them to clear the green, and then they teed off, and they met him, you know, after blah blah blah. And uh this the golf course is like, nah, not what happened.
Joe 50:12
Yeah, we know we know the tricks, we know the tricks.
Matt 50:15
That’s what happened, yeah.
Jeremy 50:16
And they showed up 30 minutes late for their teacher. Oh, damn.
Matt 50:20
Yeah, so I mean, don’t know how much money Harold Varner got. Probably not much, but this was a $75 local public track in Indianapolis.
Joe 50:31
Oh, wow.
Matt 50:32
So they they were there in Indianapolis for the the final. Uh, and it’s like, wow, really? You’re you’re Harold Varner, former PGA player, live player, and you can’t call anybody to get your boys out on a private course where you can play as a six ball somewhere.
Jeremy 50:51
That is that is a little loud. Should have called bar run, right? Hell yeah.
Matt 50:58
We played as an eight-ball in barb.
Joe 51:00
We played as an eight.
Matt 51:02
So uh our friends over at Please Let Us Golf, they were talking about this as well, and they said, Why would you ever want to play as a six ball? And I have to rebuttal to that. We played as an eight-ball, and it was probably one of the most fun rounds of golf I’ve ever had. It was a blast.
Jeremy 51:20
Nintendo was like four hours and 15 minutes.
Matt 51:23
Yeah, it was an absolute blast. So don’t don’t dog a six or an eight ball with your boys because I mean that was fun as hell.
Joe 51:33
Yeah, I think it I think a lot of it has to do with like being aware of your surroundings too, which I think talking about the whole good good thing, like it’s like being aware of situational awareness, okay. Not just in life, but on the golf course is like, can I hit right now? Then fucking hit. If you can hit, then you hit it. Okay, if if you’re one to slice it and people are to your right, and you know, hey, watch out, people to the left are safe. It’s situational awareness. Everybody needs a little bit, everybody could use more of situational awareness, you know. Just hit your fucking ball, you know. You have a you you’re in a cart with somebody, you’re playing as an eight, somebody’s in your cart. Hey, keep an eye out for this. You know, it’s there’s ways to do it and do it right.
Matt 52:22
We were in the the first group out in the tournament, and the group that was in front of us, I was worried. The person did not look the part of a golfer at all. I mean, at all. Uh, they came back to us on the first green from the mid middle of the fairway of the second hole, asking if we’ve seen the seven iron. I’m like, oh my god, this is gonna be a long day. Didn’t see them again. They played their game, they knew their game, and it was him and his son, I believe. Uh, saw him on the range, they were not good, but you know what? They got around that golf course in four hours. So you don’t have to play good, you just have to play fast.
Joe 53:07
That’s true. Nobody, nobody cares. Nobody cares if you suck, suck fast.
Matt 53:16
Have you all been following the country? Yeah, who’s the country club? Just get it. You can just get it done.
Joe 53:24
And damn, you don’t know the country club hitchhiker? You haven’t seen him?
Matt 53:29
Yeah, where would I see him?
Joe 53:30
Jeremy, you had to have seen him on Instagram. Don’t know. I don’t maybe I just don’t know the name. Being from Utah, you don’t know the country club hitchhiker. Oh holy moly, Dan. Do you know?
Matt 53:43
Why should we be following him, Joe? You’re the only person that knows. You and Theel.
The Country Club Hitchhiker
Joe 53:48
So he he uh he popped up out of nowhere recently, like two two weeks ago, maybe three weeks ago, maybe. He is from Utah and he’s trying to hitchhike his way on every uh private golf course in Utah. So what he does is he’ll go to the country club and he stands out.
Matt 54:11
Yeah, I saw that too.
Jeremy 54:12
Oh, yes, I’ve seen him. I don’t know him. I knew y’all saw him.
Matt 54:20
I just saw that scroll through where he was he Mormon.
Joe 54:24
Oh my gosh, Randy Randy with an absolute bang. There’s a high probability. High probability.
Matt 54:31
He’s a genius. Uh yeah, I mean, no, no, no. We go to Oakmont and stand outside of Oakmont doors with a sign.
Joe 54:39
No, I’ll speak on this. It’s it’s if you want to blow up content-wise, it is genius, right? It’s like it’s very smart idea for sure. Very smart idea. Genius, Michael Romasco, the private account.
Matt 54:58
Why are you why are you a private account?
Joe 55:01
Mm-hmm.
Matt 55:05
Oh, I got the wrong one. Sorry.
Joe 55:07
What do you mean? Yeah, it’s all for the content. Yeah, he’s doing a really good job. And like hitch dude, dude. Uh Drop has been like every video he messages it to me. Dude, look at our guy. Cause because you know, Drop wants to play courses and exclusive courses, so it’s like, but it’s it’s it’s it’s a hook, it’s a journey. Like I keep saying, he wants to play every golf course, uh, private course in Utah, and he’s on day five, six, whatever it is, and he’s finding a way to do it. And this journey, the journey of day one, day two, doing this, completing a challenge, like that’s what’s blowing up on Instagram, is day one of recording a golf podcast.
Matt 55:56
You gotta find something new, and he found something new, you know. He did exactly, and that’s the thing. You can’t just absolutely repeat, and that’s what the influencers of the world have been doing for so long is taking somebody else’s shit, throwing their spin on it, and redoing it. So anytime we find something creative like that, who knows?
Joe 56:18
Yeah, and that’s that’s for sure the thing is like people come back for day two and day three. Yeah, he probably, yeah. Um honestly, honestly, he looks he looks a little cooler than a soaker, but you’re funny.
Matt 56:37
That’s a weird we’re we’re 55 minutes in and we haven’t talked about Lib. That’s pretty awesome. I uh we know we had we had the Callaway stuff going on with good good, got into a little bit of Las Vegas National, spinning around here and there. Thank you everybody so much for commenting so far.
Joe 56:54
Also, if you’re here and you’re new here, make sure you like and subscribe the show. We’re here every single Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Pacific Standard Time talking golf. You guys help make the show better. So thank you for being here. Thank you for all your comments.
Matt 57:09
Yeah, thank you.
Joe 57:11
Appreciate y’all.
Matt 57:11
Yeah,
Is LIV Golf Finally Done?
Matt 57:12
all right, all of them. So the million dollar question is live done. Yep, yeah, yes, I I think probably.
Dan 57:25
I mean, I don’t know Bryson. Last week they said last week they said they find they found some financial backing, and then today after seeing the uh team championship and them canceling everything, I’m it just sounds like they’re dead again. So I don’t know.
Matt 57:40
Did you see Bryson’s post?
Dan 57:42
Yeah, he said it thanks for it was a blast or whatever the fuck it was. It was a good run, yeah.
Matt 57:47
A good run, yeah. Bryson’s coming back to the PGA in in Smashers gear.
Dan 57:55
Maybe because that shit was whack anyway. Oh yeah, it was whack. Crushers and the fireballs and the cliques. That shit was fucking lame.
Matt 58:03
They’re super they have not been seen in public not wearing team gear, right?
Joe 58:10
And probably contract, like absolutely it was.
Matt 58:14
Absolutely it was. I mean, they that’s one of the big things they said. We’re going to Augusta, we’re wearing, we have to, you know.
Joe 58:22
Yeah.
Matt 58:22
Um, so yeah, Bryson’s tweet said it all.
Joe 58:26
Yeah, so I mean, yeah, go ahead.
What Happens to LIV Golf’s Biggest Stars?
Matt 58:32
The PGA tour says, you know, it isn’t promising a live reunion. Uh, Brian Rolap addressed questions today and made the tour’s position pretty clear. Live players won’t simply be welcomed backed while they’re still under live contracts. So the tour will only rely on its existing rules when considering potential returns. That’s important because if Lib really is entering a new phase or potentially collapsing, the question becomes what happens to Rom, D Chambeau, Kepka Smith, Neiman, Patton, Bubba.
Dan 59:02
What about Wesley Bryan? Sergio is Wesley Bryan’s suspension over. See you back, yeah.
Joe 59:11
It would be Wesley. I I the the tour is gonna find a way to get the I already put that up, Matt. Oh, sorry, I was on the other screen. Told you I got it. I think the tour, the tour is gonna find a way to get Bryson back, Rom back. I mean, Joaquin Naman needs to be back. That dude is a player, you know. Cam Smith will probably be back, like they’re gonna find a way to do it, and then in in public, they’re gonna be like, Oh, yeah, you’re fine, 20 million. And I mean, I think it says it all like with uh Bryson. Who else? Who else paid the fine to come back? Wasn’t there someone else? Brooks, Brooks, and who else wasn’t there someone else?
Jeremy 59:58
Yeah, Patrick Reed’s in progress.
Joe 1:00:00
So there, yeah. I mean, you know, they made they made a bunch of money going over there, and you know, it’s like whatever here, ticket, and they’re gonna find a way to get those players back because they are big names, and Phil’s done, Phil’s toast.
Matt 1:00:15
Oh, Phil.
Joe 1:00:16
Phil’s gonna be in jail soon, probably. Um, but yeah, big Calloway guy, Callaway guy, that Phil guy. He’s a big Callaway guy.
Matt 1:00:27
Oh, dude.
Dan 1:00:29
So it’s true. Oh what did the Scotty and Rory say?
Matt 1:00:36
There was a PM grind guy, big PM grind guy with money, man. Somebody today was correlating what happened with Phil and what happened with good good as the culture of Callaway.
Joe 1:00:53
Yeah, I mean, I mean, yeah, hey, Callaway should put their money on CDP. I don’t know what they’re doing, throwing money at good, good and Phil, you know.
Matt 1:01:03
We’re all you know, you know, Phil was the director of the good good. No, that was that’s good. That’s good. That’s a good hey, hold my phone, let me go do something real quick.
Joe 1:01:19
Oh, somebody needs to do something with that. Doing a the AI video with Phil directing it. Yeah, no, tackler, tackle.
Matt 1:01:27
Put your face in the dirt a little more.
Joe 1:01:30
Holy smokes, holy.
Jeremy 1:01:32
What was
Rory vs. Scottie on LIV Players Returning
Jeremy 1:01:33
Scotty and Rory saying about I think they had during an interview or something talking about the live players and were they even were, you know.
Joe 1:01:40
Oh, yeah, where Rory was like, Yeah, I don’t think they should come back. And Scotty was like, Yeah, give them a path back.
Matt 1:01:47
Yeah, Scotty had a lot more of a PC response. Yes, there you go. Yes, yeah, his was more like you know, definitely this is playable and won’t make him look bad. I think Rory’s at a point now where he’s like, I just don’t care.
Dan 1:02:05
Yeah, he’s a grand slam winner. What else is it? He said he said, uh, I I I’d argue whether they brought value to live.
Jeremy 1:02:13
Yeah, yeah, that’s alone the tour coming back and all that. Okay.
Dan 1:02:17
And then Scotty was like, Well, of course, I you know, I got world-class players, I’m not I miss my friends.
Matt 1:02:23
How
Wyndham Clark, Rory & Player of the Year
Matt 1:02:24
about that Wyndham Clark finish yesterday? You know, he kind of shit the bed, let Rory back into it.
Joe 1:02:30
Rory had I watch Minecraft on TV nowadays. Watch Theo play Minecraft.
Dan 1:02:38
I think uh I think uh dub C is player of the year right now. Yeah, you think US Open win win in the BMW when the FedEx got playoff thing? Yeah, that’s what big wins. Yeah, that makes sense.
Matt 1:02:52
And Ping is loving every minute of it. My God.
Joe 1:02:56
Oh yeah. What’s that putter called? What is it? It’s not the Scottsdale, but what is it called?
Matt 1:03:00
The Scottsdale something.
Joe 1:03:02
Yeah.
Matt 1:03:03
I don’t know.
Joe 1:03:04
Center shaft, white.
Matt 1:03:06
Uh very white. Reminds me of the old Taylor-made rossies when they did the white ghostline. Yeah, the ghost line. That was my first like real putter purchase. I bought the uh Rossi with the hole in it. No, not the PLD.
Joe 1:03:23
The P well the PLDs are good though. The pink PLD are a new PLD that isn’t it called like a Scotty Dale or not, not a Scotty Dale. Yeah, Scotty Dale, Scotty Dale. That’s but no, it’s it’s something like that. I would think I’m an old ass ping putter. It’s called Scotty Poys, Scotty, Scotty Pings.
Dan 1:03:45
Somebody in the chat will help us out. I think it’s yeah, it’s called a Scottsdale Tech Alley Tech Alley blue. Yeah, yeah, I knew something like that.
Joe 1:03:55
Makes your putting a spider, makes your putt better. Yeah, guaranteed more putts go in with that one. Guaranteed.
Matt 1:04:03
I think he deserves player of the year. All right, that’s you know, uh, a lot of people aren’t fans of Windham Clark. I I I’m not a big I’m not a way he’s carried himself, but he won me over with the hockey jersey in Canada. That’s true. That won me over when he threw when he threw that USA jersey on in Canada in front at the Canadian open. That that I was like, all right, that’s that’s that was good. Yeah, good for him. That’s a guy that was good. That’s and not afraid. That was that was fun.
Joe 1:04:33
That was my whole thing is I don’t mind Wyndham Clark. I just he’s ran away with the big wins, which I don’t like to see, you know. Good I don’t care if he wins, uh his attitude, you know, I’d like to see the drama, like we always say, you know, like he won LACC, which that drive on 18, he shouldn’t have won uh flipping with that drive at Shinnekock. Yeah, and then he won Shinnikok, but anyway, but it’s I like the drama, and I think I think battling through it a little harder makes a better champion.
Matt 1:05:10
Yeah, maybe you know what I mean. Me and Dan were texting, he shit the bed, you know, and then yeah, just drain some big butts down the stretch, which was but that was surprising.
SPEAKER_03 1:05:20
That was that’s a good win.
Dan 1:05:22
I was surprised to see Rory shit the bed on that par five like that. Yep, once they tied and they came in at par five. You know, I know Gwendem Carks don’t slouch off the T either, but once once they got tied on 16, I was like, Oh fuck, there comes Rory Bunker to bunker, yeah, just or 15 or whatever it was. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That was a crazy finish, and then Wyndham just geran what Bertie on sixteen, seventeen, eighteen or something like that to finish.
Matt 1:05:47
Yeah, just closed him out, like no chance, and he’s a municipal guy, so there you go.
Joe 1:05:56
Yeah, yeah.
Matt 1:05:56
Shout out municipal.
unknown 1:05:58
I just got some.
Joe 1:06:00
Listen to that episode. If you haven’t listened to that municipal episode, go listen to that. Very interesting episode.
Dan 1:06:04
Mark Wahlberg signature shoe. This man stole my teddy bear.
Jeremy 1:06:10
You see Mark at Lifetime yet, Matt?
Matt 1:06:12
These are the most comfortable shoes you’ll ever have.
Jeremy 1:06:14
Yeah. Big Lifetime guy.
Joe 1:06:15
This Matt guy.
Matt 1:06:16
Uh, no, he’s got a he’s uh municipal has a gym that they’re making they’re building of their own. Uh it’s gonna be out in Summerlin. Um you’re gonna be a member. That’s too damn far. You know me. I don’t like going north of Tropicana.
Joe 1:06:32
North of Tropicana. Yeah, I don’t like going north of Tropicana, but it’s gonna it’s probably gonna be right by Summit. It’s the airport, and that’s it.
Matt 1:06:41
Yeah, yeah.
Dan 1:06:42
The lifetime where in Summerlin?
Matt 1:06:44
No, no, no. The their municipal is Mark Wahlberg has a new gym that’s kind of building in Summerland. I’ll stick to my lifetime, Green Valley. I like it. I’m happy. Losing the weight, fat’s down, muscles up. Excited. Shout out, Shane, trainer. Awesome guy. 100% recommend.
Joe 1:07:05
You guys know what this is about, right here. Yeah, I saw that.
Dan 1:07:09
It’s a non-issue.
Matt 1:07:10
Oh, yeah. It’s a non-issue.
Dan 1:07:12
They all they all fucking do it.
Matt 1:07:14
They all do it. That’s the problem. They all fucking do it.
Jeremy 1:07:16
And setting a club behind the ball, like to check the lie. Yeah, the ball’s never moving.
Dan 1:07:20
You can see the ball level and raising because he was setting the club down in Fluffy Rough, but they’ll all the all those fucking guys do it. Everybody does it, yeah.
Matt 1:07:27
That’s

Matt 1:08:35
Same place.
Joe 1:08:36
I think so. I don’t know. You know, we piece things together, you know, we put tinfoil on sometimes and we try and figure out what’s happening.
Dan 1:08:44
So all right, internet invitational, but it’s but it’s but um it’s I wonder if any Callaway logos are gonna be blurred out when they air that oh yeah, all this all this fucking crazy shit.
Joe 1:09:00

Matt 1:09:17
Yeah, I messaged him and he never responded.
Joe 1:09:20
He posted something yesterday because when I was there, I wanted to chat with him, but I don’t see him like that’s the whole thing, like with the whole algorithm algorithm.
Jeremy 1:09:30
I don’t see his post anymore because for some reason Chris Dan is an OG painter. He’s like the first person I knew that had painter shoes five years ago. Oh, yeah. But Trey, yeah, Trey wears them.
Matt 1:09:45
Julian Julian wears them. A lot of a lot of the tour guys you see that don’t have everywhere now. Yeah, wear my Jordans seldom leave. I I still love those those uh parlinks and the Travis Matthews shoes.
Joe 1:10:02

Matt 1:16:57
That’s awesome.
Jeremy 1:16:58
That’s amazing. That’s so cool.
Matt 1:17:01
Can’t take it out of the packaging, though. It’s just too cool.
SPEAKER_03 1:17:03

Matt 1:17:22
But can you read it, Joe?
Joe 1:17:24
No, I can’t read it, Randy. But it’s cool as fuck. It’s fucking cool. Can’t tell me it’s not cool, Randy.
Matt 1:17:31
Jeremy must have seen how next genre I did.
Jeremy 1:17:34
I actually didn’t know they made golf clubs, but there was racks and racks of next gen golf clubs.
Joe 1:17:40
I can’t oh so their bottom of the barrel out there. Is that what you’re doing?
Jeremy 1:17:45
I think it’s kind of their normal, like the default it’s their pro staff.
Joe 1:17:50
It’s this is what I hate about like like whatnot, whatnot. Yeah, people fucking lie to people, yeah, and it it bugs me. Like, I don’t know. When I did that, when I did that little impromptu show before the podcast, and I sold that limited edition blue Vice Golf Ball. That was so funny.
Dan 1:18:12
Well, of course, I feel like they’re gonna lie because it’s not like they’re gonna be like, this thing’s a piece of shit. I need you to pay top dollars for it. So of course they’re gonna be like, this is the best fucking thing ever.
Joe 1:18:23
I get it, right? But there’s you know, I have a hard time doing that.
Dan 1:18:29
I totally get it. Some people don’t, Joe. Some people because you’re a good guy, that’s why. Yeah, some people it’s about the fucking dollar, and that’s it.
Joe 1:18:38
You should you should have seen me, you should have seen me sell this. It was I know Matt saw me sell it.
Matt 1:18:43
Oh, yeah. I was cracking up. He liked it.
Joe 1:18:47
Limited, yeah, super limited, super limited, ice blue, vice pro.
Matt 1:18:54
And this is use blue, special ink and the font.
Joe 1:18:57
Yeah, and it’s like, come on, don’t buy fucking single golf balls. Do not buy single golf balls, please, guys.
Matt 1:19:05
Please, you know what you need to do next, Joe. Single golf cards.
Dan 1:19:11
Oh, limited people, people Jody Mud.
Matt 1:19:14
Jody mud $25.
Dan 1:19:17
This is a one of one Jody Mud.
Joe 1:19:20
This is a very this is a very big deal on what oh, yeah. The daily of the rookie, yeah. It’s cool, it ain’t worth shit though, but there’s a thousand.
