00:00:12.522 --> 00:00:22.687
Welcome back to the show, ladies and gentlemen. This is the Chasing Daylight podcast, and we have got a good one on deck.
00:00:18.704 --> 00:00:28.730
We just had the PGA championship. The Bank of Hope is coming to Vegas. I think there's a live event in D.C. Michael Block.
00:00:28.870 --> 00:00:41.597
I mean, come on, come on. It is it was just an incredible weekend of golf, and we're here to talk about it. Thank you so much for tuning in. Joe's here. Jeremy's here. And we have a special guest.
00:00:38.176 --> 00:00:41.597
Let's bring him in.
00:00:49.362 --> 00:00:53.496
Mr. Pacific Northwest himself, Todd Haas, how you doing buddy?
00:00:54.927 --> 00:00:56.228
I'm doing great. Thanks for having me.
00:00:57.665 --> 00:01:10.631
So the reason we're bringing you on the show, you had just an absolutely incredible experience. I thought me getting to caddy in the mid-am was a pretty special deal.
00:01:11.037 --> 00:01:11.278
Nope,
00:01:11.230 --> 00:01:11.370
And
00:01:11.379 --> 00:01:11.801
trash.
00:01:11.471 --> 00:01:17.713
you basically said, that's worthless.
00:01:11.471 --> 00:01:20.555
Let me step it up a little bit here. And yeah, I'm gonna go caddy in a major. Holy
00:01:20.304 --> 00:01:20.487
Yeah.
00:01:20.594 --> 00:01:20.834
shit,
00:01:20.841 --> 00:01:21.144
dead.
00:01:20.855 --> 00:01:26.537
bro. Okay. So how did this all come to be? How'd you get on Colin's bag? And...
00:01:28.304 --> 00:01:28.852
Let's start there.
00:01:29.796 --> 00:02:14.727
Yeah, so I've known Colin for, I don't know, since high school. And we've just kind of talked in passing and never been really close, but his, his normal caddy actually backed out for him in the PGA professional had something come up, wasn't able to go. And that was in New Mexico almost three weeks ago now. So he asked me, just shot me a text and asked if I do it. Told them, absolutely. Um, and he goes, if you, if we make it through, you know, you'll be on the bag for the PGA. And he made it last year, went to Southern Hills. So I had a pretty good idea that maybe we could do it again. But yeah, that's how it came about. It was just kind of a weird text message late at night. And all of a sudden, now we're in the PGA Championship. So crazy stuff.
00:02:14.650 --> 00:02:17.026
Unreal.
00:02:15.157 --> 00:02:15.947
You're amazing, man.
00:02:16.134 --> 00:02:16.299
Wow.
00:02:16.687 --> 00:02:16.848
Mm-hmm.
00:02:17.146 --> 00:02:17.932
What's his home course?
00:02:18.748 --> 00:02:22.030
Shadow Hills Country Club. It's out here in, it's like Junction
00:02:21.741 --> 00:02:22.168
Shadowhills.
00:02:22.069 --> 00:02:23.691
City just outside of Eugene, yeah.
00:02:27.114 --> 00:02:33.657
You know, we weren't sure if it was Emerald Valley or some other fancy place around there.
00:02:34.711 --> 00:02:42.715
Now he was at Emerald Valley for, I don't know how many years, but a few years at least as the assistant and then took the assistant job at Shadow Hills.
00:02:44.798 --> 00:02:49.100
Nice. So he's worked his way up and so how many how many times has he qualified?
00:02:50.560 --> 00:02:54.623
This was his second time, so he's two for three, I think. But
00:02:55.431 --> 00:02:55.657
Okay.
00:02:55.645 --> 00:02:56.526
yeah,
00:02:56.235 --> 00:02:56.439
Wow.
00:02:56.566 --> 00:02:57.407
he should be three for
00:02:57.372 --> 00:02:57.612
That's
00:02:57.447 --> 00:02:57.706
three,
00:02:57.633 --> 00:02:57.914
a good
00:02:57.747 --> 00:02:57.948
but
00:02:57.955 --> 00:02:58.257
stick.
00:02:58.187 --> 00:03:01.471
I think some stuff happened. Yeah, he's a really good player.
00:03:04.018 --> 00:03:06.800
Yeah, clearly. Good grief. Okay.
00:03:06.665 --> 00:03:07.081
So good.
00:03:07.861 --> 00:03:14.348
All right. So you win. So what did you finish to get into Rochester?
00:03:15.503 --> 00:03:26.870
So we finished eighth at the PGA Professional and we were actually tied for the lead going into the 15th hole on the final day.
00:03:21.206 --> 00:03:45.366
That was pretty wild. We had played really good the whole day, literally rolled in maybe one of 10 birdie looks going up until then. He hit the ball real close all day. We really should have probably won that tournament by three or four strokes.
00:03:39.757 --> 00:03:55.387
But yeah, 15th hole. kind of had a hiccup and stumbled our way in, but it was pretty stress-free since we had such a clear shot over the cut line. But yeah, we finished eighth in eighth place there.
00:03:56.913 --> 00:03:57.913
So cool. I mean,
00:03:57.921 --> 00:03:58.169
then.
00:03:57.993 --> 00:04:04.917
so Todd, I know you don't normally caddy like what went into like preparing for it for you. Like even
00:04:04.782 --> 00:04:04.846
Oh.
00:04:04.956 --> 00:04:11.598
in like you're going through the PGA like qualifiers, like, were you like YouTube in or, you know, how much time in advance
00:04:11.461 --> 00:04:12.009
Hehehehe
00:04:11.618 --> 00:04:16.261
did you have and like what did you do?
00:04:11.618 --> 00:04:17.500
I mean, because obviously caddy is super important in a situation like that.
00:04:18.315 --> 00:04:52.776
Yeah, so my buddy Danny, I've known him for forever and he's actually been a caddy quite a few times. So I picked his brain and then there's a couple of people that had caddied for, you know, one cat guy caddied for a girl going through the Q school for the LPGA. So I talked to him, but I didn't get to do a lot of preparation because about a week and a half before we were supposed to go to New Mexico, my back went out. And so I found myself laying on the floor the entire week leading up. And so my fitness wasn't great. I was going to try to, you know, become Superman in a week. Um, and so
00:04:52.649 --> 00:04:52.872
Yeah.
00:04:53.216 --> 00:05:01.247
luckily it loosened up enough and I was able to go, but yeah, there was definitely not any preparation, which hurt at first, but we got through it.
00:05:03.766 --> 00:05:04.533
how the cab's doing.
00:05:05.920 --> 00:05:07.540
Uh, they're hurting. Yeah, they're hurting.
00:05:07.437 --> 00:05:09.298
Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe
00:05:07.680 --> 00:05:08.100
It's, you know,
00:05:07.992 --> 00:05:08.117
Hehehe
00:05:08.240 --> 00:05:27.168
it's, it's my hip hurts a lot too. I've learned that carrying that bag and just bumping against you, you get kind of a bruise, but, um, it's mainly like what I learned is your feet are very important. And if you don't take care of them, they will let you know. And that was the worst part.
00:05:22.887 --> 00:05:32.069
And so I ended up having to go buy like a different pair of shoes after the first practice round this last Monday and I went to like a local running
00:05:32.029 --> 00:05:32.113
Yeah.
00:05:32.110 --> 00:05:35.581
store in Rochester and got some shoes and. They worked out
00:05:35.610 --> 00:05:35.692
in
00:05:35.620 --> 00:05:35.901
well,
00:05:35.711 --> 00:05:36.036
Rochester.
00:05:35.942 --> 00:05:38.086
but yeah, it was not ideal. So.
00:05:39.889 --> 00:05:40.571
Yeah, you see a lot
00:05:40.514 --> 00:05:40.593
I
00:05:40.591 --> 00:05:40.670
of
00:05:40.634 --> 00:05:40.814
learned
00:05:40.711 --> 00:05:40.932
guys
00:05:40.834 --> 00:05:40.995
that
00:05:40.971 --> 00:05:41.252
wearing
00:05:41.014 --> 00:05:41.355
during...
00:05:41.271 --> 00:05:45.480
the the HECOs and the Ones and the Nike runners with their
00:05:45.365 --> 00:05:45.607
Mm.
00:05:45.500 --> 00:05:45.901
Cadigan.
00:05:46.533 --> 00:05:46.913
Learn that
00:05:46.836 --> 00:05:46.976
Yep.
00:05:46.934 --> 00:05:53.019
during pen and solstice. Steaker swaps and sock swaps. Like for sure. 100%.
00:05:53.279 --> 00:05:54.408
Yeah, yeah,
00:05:54.360 --> 00:05:54.761
Save your
00:05:54.853 --> 00:05:55.377
absolutely.
00:05:54.880 --> 00:05:55.060
ass.
00:05:56.002 --> 00:05:56.163
Yeah.
00:05:57.358 --> 00:06:14.920
All right, so how was the vibe in Rochester? I mean, it's kind of a, it's not a huge city, but it's not a small city. You know, upper New York, upstate New York, I guess you could call it. How, what was it like? What was it like in the city with a major going on? I mean, it's kind of a, it's not a big city, but it's kind of a big city. It's kind of a big city.
00:06:16.208 --> 00:06:58.651
It was actually pretty crazy. So there were a billion people there as you can expect and we were in a pretty condensed area called greased Just outside of I guess than the main area where Okils located But we stayed in a little city called Greece about 15 minutes away from the course and even out there I mean everybody had PGA signs on the walls. The airport was just decked out in PGA stuff But it was like, it was pretty booming and it was pretty cool to see a small little city like Rochester really pumped up for that. Um, but the, I mean, the vibe was really good as you asked, like everything was really exciting, people really pumped.
00:06:53.266 --> 00:07:05.596
Everybody took pictures of our little, our little courtesy car. So we got a Cadillac something or another, and it had PGA, you know, on the side of it, and we
00:07:05.562 --> 00:07:05.682
Thank
00:07:05.615 --> 00:07:05.755
were
00:07:05.701 --> 00:07:05.843
you.
00:07:05.875 --> 00:07:16.524
driving down the freeway going into and from the course and people were taking pictures of the car and. At one point these kids at a stoplight rolled their window down, wanted us to roll it down and like, who's in the car? And we rolled the window down
00:07:16.416 --> 00:07:16.598
I'm
00:07:16.564 --> 00:07:16.644
so
00:07:16.619 --> 00:07:16.841
sorry.
00:07:16.663 --> 00:07:35.738
they could see Colin, but it was, you know, it was cool stuff like that. And like the nice part, it didn't matter if you were Roy McElroy or, you know, us, right? Colin Inglis, who's stud of a player, but not well known. Um, everybody just respected you and really liked you and appreciated what you were doing. Um, and I think it meant a lot to the city that we were there.
00:07:33.997 --> 00:07:35.738
So.
00:07:37.386 --> 00:07:44.471
I think that's really cool that you like mentioned that it didn't really matter the player because of the insane story of Michael Block this past weekend. Like
00:07:44.377 --> 00:07:44.624
Mm-hmm.
00:07:44.677 --> 00:07:44.908
Yeah.
00:07:45.310 --> 00:08:05.345
they embraced him incredibly. Like I would have loved for that to be you guys. Like that would have been insane. But like what a great story that you do. Even Colin can write his back on, you know, like that's that's insane. Like it gives hope for a lot of players out there and a lot of caddies that are just coming up. I mean, that was incredible. Like
00:08:05.504 --> 00:08:05.723
Yeah.
00:08:05.605 --> 00:08:06.045
so sick.
00:08:06.925 --> 00:08:08.264
Yeah. Michael Block, actually. I
00:08:08.295 --> 00:08:08.396
And
00:08:08.305 --> 00:08:08.425
met
00:08:08.416 --> 00:08:08.600
they,
00:08:08.485 --> 00:08:08.685
him in
00:08:08.641 --> 00:08:08.824
they
00:08:08.725 --> 00:08:08.826
New
00:08:08.863 --> 00:08:09.209
embraced
00:08:08.865 --> 00:08:09.386
Mexico.
00:08:09.230 --> 00:08:09.331
them.
00:08:10.487 --> 00:08:32.162
Yeah, no, I met him in New Mexico when we were qualifying. And he was a really cool guy came up to talk to me about my Jordans that I had on. He's a Nike athlete, just like Colin is and just really nice guy. And he ended up finishing, I think, second or third at the PGA Pro. So I wasn't really surprised to see him do really well at the PGA Championship.
00:08:32.182 --> 00:08:33.123
Yeah, heck of a guy.
00:08:33.206 --> 00:08:33.326
Well,
00:08:33.442 --> 00:08:33.982
Really humble.
00:08:34.265 --> 00:08:36.527
he's a hell of a stick. I mean, he's got
00:08:36.405 --> 00:08:36.568
Yeah.
00:08:37.148 --> 00:08:40.830
like multiple California player of the year awards and
00:08:40.720 --> 00:08:40.951
Mm-hmm.
00:08:40.929 --> 00:08:42.110
like a ton of mini
00:08:41.966 --> 00:08:42.131
Yeah.
00:08:42.149 --> 00:08:42.811
tour titles.
00:08:43.565 --> 00:08:43.769
Yeah.
00:08:44.672 --> 00:08:47.852
He's not just a guy that got lucky one weekend. He's a baller.
00:08:47.639 --> 00:08:48.884
No, yeah, he's
00:08:48.734 --> 00:08:49.134
Yeah,
00:08:48.966 --> 00:08:49.548
absolutely.
00:08:49.174 --> 00:08:56.432
I think he just had he just had that vibe this weekend and he just he just wrote it like he just wrote a wave and he just he felt it and he just wrote it which
00:08:56.467 --> 00:08:57.570
Yeah,
00:08:56.471 --> 00:08:57.072
is so sick.
00:08:57.590 --> 00:09:02.038
his hole in one on 15 on the final day was insane. I mean, that's like way to
00:09:02.013 --> 00:09:02.136
Oh
00:09:02.078 --> 00:09:02.399
cap
00:09:02.197 --> 00:09:02.341
my.
00:09:02.499 --> 00:09:06.567
off your fairy tale week and have a hole in one on 15. That's insane. Just crazy.
00:09:07.794 --> 00:09:10.135
I mean if you wanted to write it that's what you would ask for.
00:09:10.837 --> 00:09:10.899
100%.
00:09:11.091 --> 00:09:11.354
Oh, 100%.
00:09:11.657 --> 00:09:11.917
Right?
00:09:12.400 --> 00:09:13.368
It was like it was scripted.
00:09:13.337 --> 00:09:13.678
How would you
00:09:13.690 --> 00:09:13.831
Yeah.
00:09:13.719 --> 00:09:15.220
cap this off? Oh, a hole in one.
00:09:16.114 --> 00:09:17.500
Yeah.
00:09:16.301 --> 00:09:16.504
Yeah.
00:09:16.821 --> 00:09:17.760
Alright, let's make that happen.
00:09:18.647 --> 00:09:18.827
Did
00:09:18.720 --> 00:09:18.860
Yeah,
00:09:18.868 --> 00:09:18.969
you
00:09:18.899 --> 00:09:18.980
and
00:09:19.009 --> 00:09:19.250
stick
00:09:19.019 --> 00:09:19.200
like,
00:09:19.269 --> 00:09:20.537
around for the weekend at all or?
00:09:20.899 --> 00:09:35.864
so we stayed through Saturday came home yesterday. But his his up and down on hole 18. I don't think he really knew what it was for. But he had he was short sided left in the in the rough. And I don't know if you guys saw on TV how bad the rough was.
00:09:35.923 --> 00:09:37.424
But it was probably
00:09:37.030 --> 00:09:37.275
Yeah,
00:09:37.485 --> 00:09:37.664
four
00:09:37.500 --> 00:09:37.683
yeah.
00:09:37.684 --> 00:09:41.365
to six inches and super thick just lush and your ball seemed to
00:09:41.402 --> 00:09:41.501
Yeah,
00:09:41.405 --> 00:09:41.586
either
00:09:41.522 --> 00:09:41.962
Shambly
00:09:41.666 --> 00:09:42.025
sit up
00:09:41.982 --> 00:09:42.202
told
00:09:42.086 --> 00:09:42.326
in it.
00:09:42.263 --> 00:09:45.106
us a ton of times.
00:09:43.566 --> 00:09:45.307
Oh, he did. Okay. Yeah, the ball either
00:09:45.187 --> 00:09:45.408
Yeah,
00:09:45.366 --> 00:09:45.606
sat
00:09:45.369 --> 00:09:45.650
Oh yeah.
00:09:45.668 --> 00:09:45.768
you
00:09:45.687 --> 00:09:45.866
up
00:09:45.807 --> 00:09:46.229
let us know.
00:09:47.126 --> 00:09:58.187
or it sat down. in the rough and he had one of those lies where it was kind of sitting down in like a little bird's nest and hit a really good chip shot and made what was it like a 10 footer for par and that got him into
00:09:57.965 --> 00:09:58.272
Mm-hmm.
00:09:58.248 --> 00:10:01.711
not only, you know, tie for 15th. So big
00:10:01.764 --> 00:10:07.591
Yeah.
00:10:01.770 --> 00:10:07.554
money, but also exempt into next year's at Valhalla and Kentucky. So, I mean, a huge putt.
00:10:07.611 --> 00:10:10.275
Honestly, that that up and down is is more impressive
00:10:10.101 --> 00:10:11.403
Oh,
00:10:10.316 --> 00:10:11.076
than the hole in one.
00:10:11.443 --> 00:10:11.705
yeah.
00:10:11.572 --> 00:10:12.813
Yeah, yeah.
00:10:13.047 --> 00:10:14.509
The hole in one's luck. I mean,
00:10:14.577 --> 00:10:15.659
I mean, there's so many people
00:10:15.510 --> 00:10:15.792
you hit
00:10:15.700 --> 00:10:16.019
standing
00:10:15.812 --> 00:10:16.072
a great
00:10:16.059 --> 00:10:16.461
around.
00:10:16.092 --> 00:10:16.633
shot, but...
00:10:17.423 --> 00:10:17.602
Yeah.
00:10:17.750 --> 00:10:19.572
Yeah,
00:10:18.596 --> 00:10:18.736
Oh.
00:10:19.653 --> 00:10:24.217
I mean he it's so it was it was so cool to watch man and you know
00:10:24.229 --> 00:10:24.495
Mm-hmm.
00:10:24.238 --> 00:10:28.702
I can't wait to watch him at colonial and he's got an RBC can can open
00:10:28.557 --> 00:10:29.378
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
00:10:29.264 --> 00:10:31.427
like So cool, man
00:10:32.471 --> 00:10:32.673
Yeah,
00:10:32.587 --> 00:10:33.149
Fairy tale
00:10:32.934 --> 00:10:33.417
no, it was
00:10:33.389 --> 00:10:33.589
so
00:10:33.457 --> 00:10:33.639
cool.
00:10:33.649 --> 00:10:33.788
sick
00:10:36.158 --> 00:10:39.225
Okay, so Brooks ends up winning.
00:10:39.868 --> 00:10:40.113
Mm-hmm.
00:10:42.005 --> 00:10:48.126
when him and Bryce and T-Dolph on Saturday, there was a lot of boos.
00:10:49.057 --> 00:10:49.298
Mm-hmm.
00:10:49.128 --> 00:11:00.650
It was the first time, and I think the guys on CBS actually said, wow, we didn't hear this at the Masters, we didn't hear this at the Open, except for when Ian Poulter got kind of berated.
00:11:01.331 --> 00:11:01.456
Mm-hmm.
00:11:01.455 --> 00:11:01.559
Great.
00:11:02.331 --> 00:11:09.533
And I was kind of surprised. I wasn't expecting that at all. What was the vibe with the live guys out there?
00:11:10.851 --> 00:11:42.725
You know what's funny is when they booed them, it was really surprising to me too, because we were in the locker room all week with the pros and everybody. And, you know, uh, Bryson was in there. Phil was in there. Everybody was in there and just talking like their friends. There was no clash, nothing really, no friction. Um, that was all crowd, honestly, in my opinion, I think that the live guys, you couldn't really tell them apart from the PGA guys. except for the fact that they all had their like, you know, crusher shirt on or whatever it was, but it seemed, it
00:11:42.643 --> 00:11:42.912
Hehe.
00:11:42.785 --> 00:11:44.606
seemed like they were being more accepted.
00:11:44.535 --> 00:11:45.677
They're Fiverr logos.
00:11:46.227 --> 00:11:47.008
Yeah, that
00:11:47.022 --> 00:11:47.121
be
00:11:47.028 --> 00:11:47.268
they were
00:11:47.182 --> 00:11:47.543
important.
00:11:47.288 --> 00:11:53.971
being more accepted than they were maybe at prior tournaments, but it did seem, it did seem nice. Everything felt pretty friendly.
00:11:55.785 --> 00:11:57.326
Right. And that's
00:11:57.298 --> 00:11:57.446
Yeah.
00:11:57.366 --> 00:12:02.991
what that's what it needs. And I think the media has driven the
00:12:02.261 --> 00:12:02.590
Totally.
00:12:03.032 --> 00:12:17.125
the battle between. I mean, I'm not a fan of the product. I'm not a fan of some of the golfers, but. It's proof there's still sticks they can still play.
00:12:16.259 --> 00:12:16.543
Oh yeah.
00:12:16.418 --> 00:12:16.604
Mm-hmm.
00:12:17.049 --> 00:12:17.269
Yeah,
00:12:17.164 --> 00:12:17.345
I mean.
00:12:17.350 --> 00:12:25.173
I think, I think this past weekend, like really like showed me that it's, it's like media driven for sure. 100% because like Rory at the end, I, I'm sure
00:12:25.083 --> 00:12:26.192
Oh,
00:12:25.192 --> 00:12:26.214
you guys saw that video where
