Ranking Vegas: Here are my Las Vegas Top 21 Golf Courses
I’ve been asked to preface this article with a disclaimer: the rankings include only courses I have played. Therefore, The Summit and Wynn (and a few others) are unranked. This is also a Las Vegas and surrounding areas list. Northern Nevada courses will not be on here. With that out of the way, below is an explanation of how I arrived at my rankings and the list. At the bottom of the list are the courses I haven’t played yet, so before asking where a course is, check whether I’ve played it.
This opinion article is based solely on MY opinion.
How the rankings came to be.
When choosing my Las Vegas Top 21 Golf Courses, I decided not to use a formula like most periodicals; my system comes down to my gut feeling on the day I played.
It’s really that simple, and that’s my methodology behind the Las Vegas Top 21 Golf Courses. As always, if you feel I’m crazy and want to put your list together, leave a comment below, and we can chat about it!

I call shenanigans on your golf course rankings, as you have placed Legacy GC well above many much more deserving golf courses. I could name quite a few, but would rather you explain how Legacy GC is better from your experience than say Rhodes Ranch or Bears Best? Not to mention Paiute Wolf or Spanish Trails! As a reviewer of golf i would hope your ethics are in place and your list is ranked by actual belief that these are how you would rank golf courses you have played and are not fluffing up the ranking of lesser courses for your sponsors or for comps at those courses. I mean, do you really think that Las Vegas National should ever be ranked above Wolf Creek? Sir, i would would love to debate this list, though it is from 2014, and i’m hoping you have changed your opinions since than, and would like to see an updated list for 2015.
Mathew Wangrycht
Right on! Finally a worthy adversary! Mr Vandrschmuut (If that is even your real name) I’ve stated since the beginning of creating this page that these ranking are my opinion and my opinion only. Nothing has been “provided” to raise a course over another and had that been the case for Legacy I’m sure they would wish to be higher than #22.
So let’s start with your questions. First off Legacy GC is blast to play. The staff is great, the course is always in decent shape, the green fee’s are fair (for locals) and I’ve enjoyed myself just about every time I’ve been out there. Can’t say the same about Rhodes. I don’t frequent that course enough to know if it’s changed but I’ve never and I mean never have had fun playing that track. Bears Best was a turn off for me from the beginning. I didn’t like how all the holes changed from one style to another, It made it tough to get into a rhythm. The course was nowhere near in the condition it should have been for what they charge (and that has happened more than once out there for me) and the staff was beyond rude. So that’s why they are where they are.
Spanish Trails is a nice course but for being private it’s no better than any of the courses I have listed above it and because it’s private that’s why it’s so far down. The Wolf course out at Paiute is my least favorite. It has a lot to do with how tough it is and the fact its ALWAYS windy out there. Makes it had for a intermediate golfer like myself to have a good time. For instance Coyote Springs is much more difficult in my opinion and I’ve never played a decent round out there but I’ll keep going back because the course is fun as hell to play.
As for LV National over Wolf Creek that’s just my opinion. Even though Wolf Creek is visually stunning the golf sucks. Ridiculous holes that have no place on a golf course. Silly carries, blind shots and on and on. It was fun to play but I’d never go back out there and pay what they charge to play a round of golf. LV National on the other hand is a fantastic old style Vegas golf course that I love to play every time I go out there. Plus, now they have GolfBoards which is too much fun! I’d double pay at LV National vs a free round at Wolf Creek. The golf is just that much better. Wolf Creek isn’t real golf, it’s tourist golf and bad tourist golf.
I’ll go through and do some updating. Chimera is certainly moving up the ranks after the takeover of the debacle that was Tuscany Golf Club.
Thanks Mr Vandrschmuut for your comments, I look forward to reading your rebuttal and continuing this debate.
Cyrus
Hey Matthew,
Just stumbled upon your site today. I like your list and enjoyed reading the two comments. Good response, and I’m surprised you never got a rebuttal. Maybe you put him in his place! The only course I’ve played in Vegas was the Wynn Golf Club, which I was surprised is not on your list? If this because the course is now gone? I’m actually heading to Vegas next week though, and have two games lined up at Shadow Creek and Cascata, very much looking forward to experiencing these two courses. Any tips I should know before I go? Love the blog, just started my golf blog last week, if you have time, give me your thoughts. Thanks!
Mathew Wangrycht
Thanks for the comment Cyrus. I love it when people interact with the site so thanks for taking the time to chime in.
Wynn didn’t make the list because I’ve never played the course. I did manage to get a couple rounds in when it was the Desert Inn Country Club but I never could bring myself to fork out the cash for the place. There’s just too many golf courses in the valley that are outstanding at a much better price point.
As far as Shadow Creek and Cascata go, you’re going to have a blast. The customer service at Cascata is so over-the-top you leave there feeling like royalty. Shadow is just a round of golf you have to experience to understand the magic of the course. You’re in for a treat.
TIPS: Cascata – Every putt you make will be an adventure. LISTEN TO YOUR CADDY! Those guys out there are amazing.
Shadow Creek – Enjoy every minute. The locker room is amazing. The food is fantastic and the golf is out of this world.
Headed over to your site now,
Thanks again for checking out the site!

if you want to play Anthem Country Club – reach out to me.

I just got a tee time at the Winn golf club and dont see it on the list anywhere. Is it not a top course? thoughts?
Mathew Wangrycht
Yes, Wynn is a top-rated course in the valley for sure. However, I’ve only rated the courses I’ve played. U have yet to tee it up at Wynn.
Danny Noonan
Thanks for this list. It’s been helpful in determining courses we will play in April of 2021.
We will be playing Reflection Bay Day One, Sun Mountain and Snow Mountain Day Two, Reflection Bay Day 3. We may modify Day 3 with Rio Secco but Reflection Bay at $90 is more our price point.
Thanks again for the list, it made it very easy to pinpoint great courses that we can afford!
We’ll post after our trip and let you know how your recs stacked up!
Mathew Wangrycht
Thanks for checking it out!! We love the feedback!
Emilio Ciasullo
Wolf Creek #26. Sorry but this list has zero credibility.
Mathew Wangrycht
Thanks for the comment Emilio. I know it’s not a popular opinion but it’s mine. While Wolf Creek is visually stunning, and I give them a lot of credit for being able to pull of such an insane feat of creating that course, considering where it is. However, it’s video game golf at best. Wildly overpriced, and not always in the best conditions. There are MANY better golf options not only in Mesquite, but in the Vegas valley as well.

I have a bachelor party coming up and trying to encompass all playing levels for 16-20 guys. Wanted your recommendations…Thoughts for a pretty solid course with not so crazy greens fees where everyone will enjoy?
Initial ideas are Bali Hai and Revere.
Also – Have you played the Cloud 9 par 3 course under the lights after dark? If so, is it worth it? Thinking that would be a fun night activity before going crazy at the tables!
Thank you!
Mathew Wangrycht
Thanks for the comment William, I apologize for never getting back to you. Are you up for telling me where you ended up going and how it went for your group? I’d love to hear if you found a spot and how accommodating they were.
Luc
Hi,
Came upon your list and we are going to Vegas in late March early April.
How would you compare Rhodes Ranch (I don’t see it on your list) to Chimera?
The plan right now is to play:
Boulder Creek, Primm Valley (both), Bali Hai, Reflection Bay and Rio Secco.
We need 2 more courses and we’re looking at more affordable ones for the last 2. We plan on bookig the last one through Golf Now when we get there but we want to have most of them booked before we leave.
Thanks in advance. And if you think we’re making a mistake with any of our choices so far, do not hesitate to criticize, I won’t take it personal…
Luc
Mathew Wangrycht
Thanks for the comment Luc, I wish I would have been back on the site sooner to assist you better and maybe save you some grief on your trip. How did everyting end up going for you?

I have family in Vegas and have been coming to town for years. I think I will be using your list in the future. I was wondering if you have played Mountain Falls in Pahrump – trying to see if it is worth the drive as I have played many on the list already. And as someone who only comes about once a year, typically Christmas time, I only see winter golf conditions, so I would be happy to see a ranking based on course conditions alone (playability and experience not included) and if you have time to do the list for summer and winter conditions that would be amazing but I understand if that is a bit much. Thanks for your honest opinions!
Mathew Wangrycht
Winter vs Summer conditions is a great idea! We’ll look into that when we do the Chasing Daylight Podcast Vegas Course rankings later this year!
Ryan Salava
Hello, just stumbled upon your sit, great ranking’s and info. I am headed to Vegas September 8-10. Plan on playing Sunday and Monday, possibly 36 each day. Will be going to Paiute for sure, just not sure about the others. I know over seeding starts and have looked at maintenance schedules. My main concern is what is the condition of the courses this time of year?
Mathew Wangrycht
Thanks for the comment Ryan,
September can be tough as most course are overseeding. However there are a hndful of places no lobger doing a full overseed so youll porbaly just need to reach out or check the website of the courses your playing. Paiute will be perfect as always, but I would highly adviose you checking out Coyote Springs which is a little over an hour away north of Vegas. It’s spectacular and they don’t overseed.
David Ramsay
What are your thoughts on LVCC? Is it a good golf course?
Mathew Wangrycht
Absolutely! I love that place! So much history, and we don’t have very many walkable courses in Vegas.
Philip MaBails
Have you tried Los Parados in Las Vegas? Seems like a nice affordable course?
Mathew Wangrycht
Haven’t played there in forever. It’s a nice little layout though.
Tyler Boykin
I’ve heard that Rio Secco and Revere are in rough shape right now. Is that true, and if so how playable are they? Is it just a watering restrictions issue that all the courses are dealing with?
Thanks in advance!!
Mathew Wangrycht
We played the Concord course on Saturday. It’s a little rough around the edges but the green were pretty good. Lexington is in a pickle right now, and it’s probably not going to be back to great shape until September after the overseed.
Haven’t heard any bad things coming out of Rio. Everything is s little dry right now everywhere so it could just be that. Courses are still trying to adapt to the new water restrictions. Some are doing it a lot better than others!
Chase Carter
Just getting into golf and live right by Painted Desert. I’m just wondering how it is as you have it near the bottom of your rankings. I’ve heard it’s gone downhill semi recently? Would probably just go for their driving range at first but also heard that’s in rough shape too (even surface to hit on etc)
. Curious your thoughts on it and if there is a good but cheaper-ish course in the valley for a beginner. Thanks Mathew!
Mathew Wangrycht
Thanks for the comment, Chase,
Painted gets the low rankings for several reasons. Conditions over the last several years have only gotten worse; it seems like there are issues there every year. For me, if I’m driving to that side of town, I’m going to Paiute 100% just cause I know the conditions are always going to be top-notch there.
For beginners, consider checking out the Cloud 9 Par 3 course at Angel Park, as well as the Summerlin tracks like Eagle Crest, Palm Valley, and Highland Falls. Also, Durrango Hills. You gave plenty of options.

My wife and I are planning a trip to Vegas in early November and we’re hoping to squeeze in two rounds of golf, one on Friday and one on Sunday. We’re both high-handicappers and I’m not sure if Shadow Creek would be too challenging for us to enjoy. We’re looking for courses with wide fairways, in good condition in November, and that offer a nice scenic view. Can you recommend some courses that fit our criteria? Thanks a bunch!
Mathew Wangrycht
Gary, my apologies for never responding to your comment.
Where did you end up playing and how was the experience?
Brett
Great rankings. First rankings I have seen with the private courses ranked among the public courses. I have only played Canyon Gate and Spanish Trail (when it was semi-Private) and would agree they’re behind Siena, Revere – Lexington, and Angel Park – Mountain. It’s a good course but the dormant Bermuda in the winter months sucks and the tee sheet is way too crowded.
I have played most of them and agree with most of your list (I would not put Sun Mountain ahead of Wolf at Paiute). Initially I though Reflection Bay was low given how much I enjoyed the views and holes along the water, but the more I looked at the courses ahead of it, I could make arguments for all of those, especially with the lack of range and varying conditions of the greens.
It’s hard to rank courses because value, pace of play, condition (time of year, weather), all affect the experience. There are courses that are good in winter, but bad in summer, and vise-versa. There are courses I like, but management spaces tee times every 7/8 minutes, and it takes forever to finish (Chimera).
Vegas is very lucky to have Paiute. Good luck in your pursuit of getting on at the Summit Club.
Mathew Wangrycht
Thanks for the comment Brett! And thanks for sharing your thoughts also!! Love that!
Mike P.
So I had Paiute as on the list but it looks like they are doing aerification on the entire course on certain April dates, Snow (closed when Im there) and Sun (just a couple days into healing when I’m there) so these are out of the question. The Wolf will be 18 days healed so the question is this The Wolf at 90 precent or Coyote Springs.
Mathew Wangrycht
Have you played Coyote Springs?
Sam
We are 2 golfers coming to Vegas to celebrate our 40th birthdays in April. We both shoot in the mid 90s with nice drives but difficulty putting. We’d love to find the right combination of awesome yet affordable.
Goals:
– 2 weekday morning rounds (total cost ideally between $300-$500 total)
– love the idea of an island green (I believe Paiute has one), a great view of nature or the strip, anything else that makes it unique
– possibly adding a 9 hole muni, anything particularly cool about any of them?
Which courses fit the bill best for us?
Thanks in advance! Hit ’em straight
Mathew Wangrycht
Thanks for the comment, Sam,
Price recommendations are tough, as we typically get a local rate. Best thing to do is look on the course’s website, most of them have rates going up to 30 days out, or it’s publicly listed.
Great views: Revere, Serket, Highland Falls
Great conditions: Paiute (the best public play for sure), but it’s going to cost you
Some Vegas History: Las Vegas National
Great course with a fun routing: The Legacy
If you’re up for a drive, Boulder Creek in Boulder City, Nevada, is worth the drive as the courses (27 holes) are fantastic, and Boulder City is a quaint little town to tour around in afterwards.
If you’re up for a drive and want a challenge, Coyote Springs (about an hour and 20 minutes north of Vegas) is a spectacular course that is extremely challenging.
9-Hole Course: Cloud 9 at Angel Park. It’s a par 3 course, but you can play it under the lights.
Hope you have a good trip!!
Dilesh Davda
Hey mate,
Firstly, what a great post, I come here every year before I head for our annual Vegas trip.
Need a little advice … We have a mixed bag of golfers… But average out as mid teen handicapers.
We have played the pauite courses, Rio Secco, TPC and reflection bay. But we are looking somewhere, where dont have to travel so far with a course in good condition without paying extortionate rates (e.g. Wynn). Staying near Spring Valley.
Any ideas or suggestions? Was shortlisting to Bali Hai, Rhodes Ranches & TPC.
Going in April.
Thanks
Mathew Wangrycht
Thanks for the kind words!! Love seeing comments like this!
Definitely check out Rhodes Ranch. We just had our league’s tourney out there, and the conditions are really good! Bali Hai will bend you over on the out-of-town rate, and while it’s a fun track, it certainly isn’t worth the price.
Also, take a look at Siena. Always in decent shape, and it’s a fun route. Avoid Arroyo.
If you want to travel a little bit further, Revere in Henderson is in great shape right now, as is The Legacy.
Let me know where you end up playing!!
Nate
How are the Revere/Lexington and Angel Park/Mountain right now?
How two tee times there for an upcoming work trip next week. Hoping to get in at Paiute Sunday afternoon but looking unlikely.
Any others you’d recommend in that range in the two I mentioned above are struggling right now?
Jake
Love that Boulder Muni is above some of the other well known courses specifically Bali Hai. Couldn’t agree more with that ranking lol. Hopefully the ongoing turf reduction makes this course even better. I’ve settled into playing Revere, Paiute, & both Boulder Courses as my regulars. Boulder & Revere are fun, but the experience at Paiute is top notch. Chimera has been brutal for me in the past but it’s been over a year, last time I played the greens were terrible & tee times were STACKED. Reflection Bay is a great experience IMO, if I was a tourist, I think I’d have that one on my list. Playing Canyon Gate soon, looking forward to that.
